Please Cast Your Vote GE Cafe'' or Electrolux

Hi,

I also posted the question in the Kitchen forum, we appreciate the information and opinions that are shared on the GW.

We have narrowed our choices in kitchen appliances to the GE Cake' and/or Electrolux package. Our planned purchase is the GE Cafe" gas range and GE Cafe' OTR microwave, and the Electrolux French door counter depth bottom freezer refrigerator and Electrolux dishwasher. The reason for the mixed package was what we felt were feature and possible quality issues.

My wife likes the size of the GE ranges oven, but didn't like the opening and closing of the refrigerator interior draw system. Both refrigerators have the stainless steel sides and it is one of the features at this price point we both want.

I on the other hand seem too be hung up on the reliability aspect.

I have done numereous web searches including consumers report for ratings and reveiws and it seems like a mixed bag of opinions.

If anyone has any of the appliances I have listed please tell us about your experience along with your likes and dislikes.

I've had the Elux Icon 30" single oven, the Elux Icon Speed Oven, and their wine fridge for over 4 years now.

All have been trouble free, oven bakes accurately, Speed oven used every day (mostly for microwaving) but gets a lot of use as a speed oven also.

Wine fridge has been trouble free (alto Elux did have a lotta problems with their earlier model full size fridges)
most the post about their new fridges have been positive but still a bit early to tell how they will do in the longer run.

I had to replace a very fancy Caldera cooktop after it failed in less than 2 years. I replaced it with an Elux Icon Induction cooktop---had it about a year now and we love it.

Dishwasher? I would still go with Miele (as we did) or Kitchenaid

Our new kitchen is not finished yet but all the appliances are in and working.
I have the E'lux Icon dishwasher and it is wonderful. Everything has come out clean, very easy to load and it's so quiet you never know it's running. Good thing there's a blue light that projects onto the floor to let you know it's done. I also love the interior lights. Just wish it unloaded the dishes for me.

We also put in the E'lux Icon Speed Oven, 30" wall oven, 36" induction cook top and warming drawer. Our new refrigerator is the Samsung FD with the deli drawer. No complaints on any of it.

to egganddart49--Congratualations on getting a GE Cafe that looks and functions well. Just wanted to help you understand your fan noise. The quiet convection fan is separate from the noisier fan noise you heard when your oven reached 400 degrees or greater. That noise comes from a second cooling fan which only comes on when the oven reaches a certain temperature and stays on for awhile after the oven is turned off. You will probably find that when you use your convection or regular bake function at temperatures lower than 400 degrees, you will not hear the cooling fan come on. I found this out, because one of the defects in my 1st Cafe was that the cooling fan came on at 350 and the sound was driving me a little crazy. After my circuit board was changed out in an attempt to correct my convection bake issues, the temperature had to reach 400 before the cooling fan came on, which was much nicer since it would be unlikely that any of my baking would be above 375. I just bought and had installed a whirlpool side by side fridge the only on that would fit in my space. I waited 7.5 months to get it because I needed black , 2 days in the noise is driving me nuts it is the motor I can tell shuts off when either door opens . I locked the ice water dispenser on the door and it stopped but was that a fluke? but the others here want to use that feature. I looked into ways to sound proof the noise and will try that , like putting a rubber matt under it and sound proofing material behind it on the wall as what I have read the motor noise is in the air ( make sense who knows ) , the decibel reading , using a phone app, was 52 - 69 that was holding the phone in different places. I emailed my rep no response and now I know why they are all louder I think, I miss my 24 year old one ( except the way it was too cold inside who wants fresh frozen veggies ha ha ) why does this have to be very upsetting.

Concerns are performance, frequency of repairs (hopefully low to none), and ease and cost of getting repairs. This final concern is one that leads my husband to think the GE might be a better choice. I quickly regretted the purchase of a GE oven. (Long story, short: Inconsistent and spotty temps, not holding heat, regaining heat by going into preheat mode and burning the tops of things... It was 'working properly as engineered.' They took my oven back but another avid baker here on the forum experiencing the same issues got no help or refund from GE, even though we were concurrently communicating with the same person.) Just after I bought it, I spoke to my favorite appliance tech (not good timing on my part) and he said they had trouble getting GE to send parts in a timely manner and that they were expensive compared to others. --Just trying to say that GE may be the opposite of what your husband hopes. Elux gets such overwhelming kudos on the appliance forum from members whose opinion I trust, that of your choices, that's where I'd lean. But I've also seen mostly favorable reports from Bosch owners on the current Bosch ovens.

From the KP manual The Turbo Boil burner (18k BTU) is the most powerful burner for cooking in larger pots, for canning, for large amounts of soup, or for boiling water, and it is located at the right front of the cooktop. • The Simmer burner (5k BTU) is best suited for simmering delicate sauces, and so on, and it is located at the right back of the cooktop. • The Power burner (12k BTU) is recommended for bringing large quantities of liquid to temperature and when preparing larger quantities of food, and it is located at the left front of the cooktop. • One standard burner (7.5k BTU) may be used for most surface cooking needs, being designed to fit most cookware. It is located at the left back of the cooktop. • The Simmer Oval burner is located in the center of the cooktop and consists of a center burner (the 5k BTU Oval Simmer burner) and an oval burner, consisting of two, 12k burners. The center, Oval Simmer, burner can be set separately from the overall Simmer Oval burner. This is badly written bc it makes you think the center consists of 5+12+12 but does this actually mean the center is 5+12 = 17? If so, total of 59. If not, and center is 12, then 54. I am looking at all gas too.

I would go with Electrolux over the GE - and I sell both for a living.
