You can absolutely have an induction cooktop with an oven underneath-just like an electric cooktop.

Can you post a layout so we can visualize your space and its possible limitations better? When asked if I'd go with induction or electric range, I'd choose induction every time. Too many pluses to ignore! Then you can get as fancy or basic an oven as you need, too.

There are also a couple of induction ranges on the market :)

Hmmmm, I thought I saw something about if you put an oven below an induction cooktop, the oven would get even lower to the floor then a regular range because the induction cooktop has to have more space below it. I really don't even want a range as I've always had wall ovens and I like not having to stoop over to pull heavy things out of a hot oven. I've thought of doing cooktop over oven in this house only because the kitchen is small and it would give me more counter space.....i.e. not having a micro/oven combo taking up so much space. Also, where the cooktop/oven will be is very close to the kitchen table so not far to tote hot casseroles, etc. Are we getting a picture here...I'm LAZY!

I do think I will definitely go with induction. What's the downside other then price? And this is probably the last house we're gonna put money into. Might as well have want I want. Funny to think that in my main home I have survived over the last 15 years with a 4 burner electric coil cooktop and a GE micro over plain jane oven. Guess this forum can be a blessing and a curse. Never knew what I had been missin, but sure as heck ain't gonna be sittin in the cheap seats with this remodel if I can possibly swing it.

Posting layouts, pics of my proposed new kitchen is beyond me at this point...I am a computer idiot. I am going to work on that as I think the before I got, and the after I am hoping for could be very interesting. I will try to get some pics soon and post. Finally, could someone tell me a brand that has induction cooktop over an oven as an integrated unit? And as always, thank you new friends so very much.

Downsides to induction, other than price of the unit:

*New cookware so that it is magnetic

*The need for heftier power/wiring than what you might already have for a current electric cooktop.

Dang! I've been mentioning it here since I saw an induction range, but can't find it on the 'net :( Falcon has one that's very pretty too, but I don't know if they're available in the U.S. The photos I found of the Diva de Provence look a lot like what I saw but I don't think that's it, and the Diva isn't out yet I don't think. It'll be a 5 hob induction over an electric convection oven. I know I'd seen at least one other brand on the net besides Diva and Falcon and can't find that either :( Fat lot of help I am!

But back to the original question: Pupwhipped, you said you don't even want a range. So don't get one! Squeeze in your wall ovens. Find another way to extend the counter. You could do a flip up or down style one. You could do the kind that pulls out and has legs. Or a rolling counter high folding cart. A movable island. This is your kitchen, and the most important thing is that you feel comfortable in it.
