Some folks do stain glass on them, if you go to the Stain Glass fourm you can see some of their work..others put lights in them and put pictures on the front and back of them and ribbion around the sides with or without a bow on top. some put baby pictures on them.. It is up to you what you want to do.. just go wild...LOL Huggy

There are a couple places you might try. One is National Artcraft in Ohio. I believe the site is www.nationalartcraft.com or you might try Lamp Specialties in NJ. These are wholesalers and they have these items all the time. I don't remember the url for Lamp Specialties so you might try a Google. We used to buy the lights year round from these two companies. They're basically caramics suppliers but you can get a lot of other things from them too.

Someone has suggested getting a glass place to drill the holes in the blocks for you - anyone done this? At what cost? I promised to make several of these for friends at work and thought my hand-held drill with a bit I use for ceramic tiles would work - now, not sure it will (and, my husband won't let me do it and will not be happy if it takes 10 minutes per block!) I know a woman who did these with the battery lites and used them as a centerpiece for a 50th anniversary party.

I've made them before. There is no particular way to put the lights into the inside. The 35 string is the best and the white wire is preferred to the green wire if you can find it. I've used both, but only because there have been times when I couldn't find the white. Just be sure to test the string of lights before inserting them to be sure they work. They are esier to put in than to take out. I have made them with solid color lights and a couple with the multi colored lights. I like the solid colored ones the best, but the multi colored ones had a bow on them that had all the colors of the lights so they turned out okay too. I have 5 glass blocks left over from previous years that I've already drilled holes in. I'm glad you told us about a place to buy them with holes already in them. Drilling the holes is messy and the drill bits are rather expensive. I've had a few where a little plug of glass dropped into the inside of the glass and I can't get it out. I worry that the plug might cut the wire of the lights. Those are just sitting in the attic waiting for me to do something with. I can't wait to see pictures of yours. I don't think I ever took any pictures of mine simply because I didn't think about it. I will take pictures of ones I do in the future. Linda
