Halloween Skeleton

I made this macrame skeleton a gazillion years ago. I just "found" him in a box I pulled out of storage. And he is now proudly hanging on my front door.

I DO NOT HAVE DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO MAKE HIM. It was macrame. Thick nylon cord, a large metal ring for the head, a dowel and some large wooden beads for shoulders, a popsicle stick and large wooden beads for the pelvis, and lots of creative knotting and braiding. I could post more close up pictures of each body part if people wanted to attempt this on their own. But it's been so long since I've done macrame, I don't think I could even tie a square knot any more.

He's gorgeous! I would love to make one, but I don't think my fingers and hands could handle all that knotting. I'll bet if we google it we can find a pattern, tho! You did nice work!

The pattern is in a booklet called 'Macrame Guys and Gals', I think it's book 2, but I found this on Flickr- With the above good photos and this page of instructions, someone should be able to make one.

Nana, watch out, those who play with witches could be asking for TROUBLE! 13 witches plus the hags is alot to keep under control.haha Will be looking for the Black Boots! Tj is my favorite too. Jeanne, um didn't mean to scare a grown girl so much. I still have one more scary coming but the rest should be ok for you to view. Maybe I need to rate my posts in advance.LOL OA, the gray plates are silver charger plates. The purple plates are my set from Pier 1 NUEVO ORGANIC VIOLA. I will try to take a closeup and share for you this weekend. Jane, don't have to worry about another shelf breaking! That was the only one in there. You know the old saying "You get what you pay for" and I only paid $25 so maybe thats the reason it didn't last.haha I also just gave DD my large mirror I had used above it last weekend.sigh I did have a nice birthday, thanks. Will have to share my new tureen DD bought me. I think she loves all my dishes or she wouldn't keep spending so much on them. I know Rowena isn't your favorite either but I use to like her! Need a Skeleton for a Greeting Card??

Assembled, mine is about 8-1/2" from top of skull down to boney toes. Of course he 'folds' up well with all those loose joints, so will fit inside a regular greeting card. Got any good ideas on the verse part to go with a skeleton? This is for my 90 year old Mother who has Alzheimer's Disease, so I know the verse doesn't really matter, but I still like it to be sensible to others who may see the card. And I may make another one for my grandsons (preschool age up to first grade).

Well, I live on a street in a small town that gets 100's if not a thousand trick-or-treaters. It is great fun and even though I fill my giant bowl to the brim, twice, we always run out of candy. So I overly decorate because it's just plain fun and there is obviously an audience for it which makes it even more fun. I line the front wall with jack o'lanterns. Their flickery flame inside makes the pumpkin smell and look amazing. I happen to love the smell of a burning pumpkin. I I have ghosts hanging in the trees and a skeleton on the front porch. We have a another ghost that travels overhead when it senses noise and also have a fog machine. I have more jack o'lanterns leading up to and onto the front porch and I play really loud Halloween music like the Monster Mash and scary organ music- Bach for all to hear. There's a scarecrow in one corner of the yard and we have some of those projection lights that light up the skeleton. Inside I have my mantle done up with all sorts of vintage Halloween decorations and some crows that caw when you walk by.

I’m looking for advice about how to keep my skeleton decorations in position on outdoor columns. These preliminary ones are held up by velcro strips and a bungee cord, but I need a way to secure them and keep them higher up. Since the columns are rounded and the skeletons will be outside in Chicago, I dont think my usual reliance on command hooks will suffice. Another issue is that pesky gravity move the limbs out of position, but I also dont want to use anything permanent as I plan on changing their placements every couple days. Any recommendations for a sturdy yet temporary way to hold their positions will be very much appreciated.

The link is just to a yahoo account, and all I can find are books for sale. :( But I love this skeleton! I haven't seen macrame cord in years. Can you still buy that stuff?

I posted that link almost a year ago, the photo wasn't private at that time. The pattern is called Wishbone Jones and it is in book #2, Macrame Guys and Gals. You can find the book on Amazon, Ebay and Etsy, off and on.

I've seen macrame cord in a few stores, in limited colors. I'm sure you could find it on the internet easily enough.

He's very cute!! I had to quit making knots as I started getting chest pains!! I did a curtain I guess you could call it for my kitchen window & that was a lot of work. I think it was 72 inches wide. I made several Christmas trees about 15 in. long I think, they were so cute, had red wooden beads on the rows. Dowel at bottom & cords were the trunk!

I made one about that many years ago too, pixie lou. LOL
And the very first night I hung it on my porch it was stolen. It is a lot of work, so I never made another one. I made 2 lions, giraffe, pig, sheep, turtle, and lots of owls.
I really enjoyed macrame, and sold lots of hanging tables and plant hangers.

I made one a gazillion years ago too and I just got the pattern out again to make one for someone that is graduating from medical school. It was difficult to find the right size macramé cord. I ended up purchasing clothesline from Home Depot. It was the only 8 mm cord I could find! Fun to make!

I made the same one about 30 years, and I proudly hang him out at Halloween. I still get comments on how nice he is. Today my lawn pest control guy wanted the instructions, but I don't have them either. Will look at Amazon. Thanks.
