electrolux oven wave touch opinions wanted

I am planning on getting the Electrolux oven but it seems to be only available in Wave Touch, unlike the dishwasher that is available IQ touch. I prefer the IQ touch because it makes me nervous not being able to see the buttons -- seems like it is just one more thing that could malfunction! (Also it isn't truly "wave" touching since when I tried it out at Best Buy I had to touch the panel for it to show the buttons, not just wave my hand in front of it like I'd assumed from the name.) So, can anyone with the Wave Touch oven reassure me -- or talk me out of getting this oven? I really love everything I've heard, seen and read about it so the control issue is the only thing giving me second thoughts. Thanks!

I have it, and love it. It adds a cool factor. Yes you have to touch it to activate it. When its off though, it is very sleek looking since you dont see buttons

How long have you had the electrolux...is it a wall oven ??/ I'm trying to decide between that and the kitchenaid architect II, but don't like the glass door. Opinions?? Does the electrolux bake well??? Have you use the self clean yet??

In Wave Touch, the controls seem to disappear when the appliance is unused; they appear (with a beep) when you touch the control panel glass. IQ Touch visibly displays all controls all the time. Two guesses: its as if Wave Touch uses black glass, and IQ Touch uses clear glass; perhaps IQ Touch came out first. So -- unless there are reliability issues between these displays that I haven't heard about -- its a matter of preference. How you want this fridge to appear in your kitchen most of the time? I have (and like) Wave Touch on my E'lux range, but some prefer always visible controls (at least, considering the cost).

Finally our kitchen is done and we have been using the wave touch all gas Electrolux oven-so far so good. No smell (which I had worried about) when we used it the first time. We also got the matching OTR microwave and no complaints on it either.

We had the Wavetouch controls on both the Elux Icon Oven and also their 30" speed oven for over 4 years now. Nary a problem with either. I doubt there is a lot of difference complexity wise between the 2 different types of controls. I haven't seen a post where a "Control board" the CPU board in these appliances (Elux) has failed after self cleaning, alto there have been many posts about those kind of failures on KA Ovens.The wavetouch doesn't seem to be sensitive to finger prints or other "Disgressions" on it's touch surface alto they are pretty easy to clean off. We have the Elux Icon Induction cooktop too, and no problems with its touch panel either. Sorry, no experience with the IQ controls. Gary

@dodge59 - by Useless I mean they did nothing. The local repair company that Elux sent out checked to make sure it heated up properly and seemed to want to spend more time talking about how a microwave oven works, etc., which means he wasn't very knowledgeable. Vendor sent out a technician who checked the heating temp, and told me to always give a 30-min pre-heat time, so I"ve been doing that for well over a year. Neither one took the oven apart, but m best guess is the heating elements are not heating up symmetrically. @wekick - I did not use convection on the creme brulee, but the problem happens both ways. Here's another old photo of some Cornish hens, baked this past winter. It was so long ago that I really don't remember if convection was used with this batch, but I do know the same uneven browning pattern happens with convection *and* without convection. As always, everything on the right side is more browned and probably more cooked. I'm going to buy two identical oven thermometers, one for each side - toward the rear - and see what happens. Then I'll switch them and check the temp reading again, before I start making phone calls. Argh...

I've had mine since the middle of October. As Jache says, the touch control panels are c-o-o-l. When they're off you just have the time showing. Though I think you can actually turn that off if you so desire. Love the oven lights, they are really bright.

All the controls on the ovens are electronic, so will these be more problematic? As long as your not punching the buttons they should be as reliable as any electronic board. The oven does what it's suppose to do. It does run the fan, even after you shut it off, until it gets to some preset temperature.

Actually the touch controls on the navigation screen on my SUV are probably more likely to give me fits. They are subjected to hot/cold temperature changes. So, I'm not worried about the touch panel on the Electrolux.
