I have been using AVG (free edition) for years and it's been great.

If you're unprotected now, you may not even be able to download another anti-virus program - malware, etc, may prevent it.
You may have to load whatever onto a memory card and then install through a port.

First, I would install Malwarebytes to clean up your puter.

I've you're computer is older, Avast is good free one because it's not a space hog as Norton was.

Speaking of, you must go to Norton's site and get an un-install key/download to completely removeNorton, otherwise whatever you install may conflict.

If you your using Windows7, Windows Security Essentials from/trough Microsoft is very good and I use it.

Also if you haven;t done so, after running Malwarebytes, install and Microsoft updates.

I use ESET NOD32, but it's not free.

I was using Avast on all of our computers but found that to be a resourse hog so we switched to Microsoft Security Essentials. For the rest of the dirties; install Super Antispyware

We only use Malaware bytes if there is something Super Antispyware can't get. Since Super Antispyware is free; you have to manually run it but it's a decent program.

Another vote for Windows Security Essentials - I'm using it with Windows XP. It's what our IT support firm at work suggested and so far, I've had no problems at all.

I am ecstatic to say "none"! After months of one virus after another, anti-virus software of every description, and finally the death of the hard drive in my laptop I have splurged on a MacBook! Yay!

Just because most viruses are targeted towards Windows systems doesn't mean that Macs are immune to viruses! I wouldn't go naked on any system.

I tried many different AVs on my old laptop, including Windows Security Essentials, Vipre and the AV used by Yahoo itself, yet my laptop still became infected!

If you have Comcast as your ISP, they offer a free subscription to Norton

AVG is good but hogged resources big time on my machine, slowed it to a crawl.
Avira (free for Windows) is very good, much less a resource hog.

For a free firewall I love Comodo (not the suite, just the firewall). Does a bang up job for a freebie. Even warns me of suspicious sites and if it's for sure not good (such as a google search result I click on) will warn me to stop and not enter the site.

I use Malwarbytes for scanning for spyware, malware, etc. and SpywareBlaster for stopping the junk from ever landing on my PC via browsers. If SpywareBlaster is kept regularly updated, very little lands on my machine other than the odd tracking cookie.

I'm with sis. Have been operating Macs since 1988 and have never worried about a virus.

Another singing Mac praises. I got so tired of dealing with all the crap that goes along with a PC. Dh still uses one for his job and it's a constant source of irritation.

I use Norton but I shop around for sellers. I just bought it for 2012 for $26.95 and I can put it on three computers.
