Challenge for New Ideas For Xmas

It won't be long and Xmas will be here. Does anyone have any "NEW" ideas for a Xmas Craft.

There must be some "NEW" ideas out there, I sure wish I could come up with some.

There are so many creative people out there, lets see who can come up with a good idea. Doesn't have to be complicated but has to be a "NEW" craft.

Hi jbkidd,

I have a couple ideas for you. Hope they're unique to you and your Xmas decorating.

1. Icicles - Take chicken wire, 36" in length, cut one end to 18" and the other end to 6" (you should have a triangle shape when you're done) You then lay a strand of white Xmas lights on top of the wire triangle. Shape this into a cone or funnel shape and wire the seams together. Then, wrap the whole outside with saran wrap, crinkle and bend the funnel shape so that it isn't perfectly straight. Make it look like an icicle. Then cover it with clear sprinkles of tiny beads or glitter. Do several and hang them on the fireplace mantle or hang outside on the eaves of your porch.

2. Another idea is to go to your local $1 store and purchase a pkg of copper scrub pads. The round ones. Remove the wire that holds the centre together and it will open up to a large round tube. Cut the tube in half and use it in decorating wreaths, put on the Xmas tree instead of expensive ribbons. If you want it wider, just cut it again lengthwise and open the tube up, stretch it open and use them that way. I did my whole front entry one Xmas with just copper scrub pads and copper flowers etc.. in my garlands, trees etc... Just let your imagination go wirery!! Ha Ha

Have you seen the "mice" cookies made out of stemmed maraschino cherries dipped in chocolate with Hershey Kiss heads resting on half of an oreo cookie? They are soooo cute and everybody who sees them, raves about them. You take the top off of an Oreo cooke and save the white frosted part to use as the base. Dip a stemmed cherry in melted chocolate and lay on the white frosting with the stem facing backward like the tail of the mouse. Place a dab of chocolate on the base of the Hershey Kiss. Use 2 sliced almonds pressed into the chocolate as ears and press against the cherry. The base of the kiss goes against the cherry with the almonds in between as the ears. Use green frosting gel and place 2 dots on the Kiss as eyes. Place a red hot or cinnamon candy on the center of the white frosting by one side of the mouse and pipe green gel leaves on either side of the red hot. It is just a green squiggle on either side, but it gives the effect of holly. You could also use a dot of red piping gel on the tip of the Kiss as a nose, but it isn't really necessary. When done, the mouse faces sideways with the holly in front! They take some time, but aren't that expensive as the cherries usually come in a jar with a large number of cherries, and probably 3 bags of Oreos would give 100 bases. I have two girls ages 2 and 4, and the love the Leap frog learning toys. I think it is a wonderful toy that also helps them learn. My girls have also pointed out other things like; Betty Spagetti dolls, polley pocket, and some other one called What's her face.(It is one where they can draw different faces on the doll)My daughters love crafts, so I thought this was a good one that combines two of their favorite things, dolls and crafts.

Thank you for a warm welcome! I hope to post pics soon. I have been quilting 6+ years and have done paper piecing, patchwork, applique (fusible, machine and hand) and a little free form with embellishing. I'm really a generalist- purses, totes, wall hangings, lap and bed size, table runners, etc. Current WIPS are bed quilt, purse and two stuffed cats. Of course, a few UFO's are safe in boxes! I am excited to try new things and appreciate all the ideas that are put forth here. I quilt and sew for my own satisfaction, not for competition. You all are inspiring!

Honestly this was a very sentimental and special thread and nd it's now turned into something totally different. While I will agree that Mothorchid does need to do better research before making a statement, we all need to remember we were all newbies.And even though most of us were shy about asking questions Mothorchid is obviously the chatty type. Now we have been growing for years him a few days or weeks 0 we all know that some things are only learnt through experience so let's all be kind enough to let him learnÃ°ÂÂÂ. I started this week on my christmas gifts for my three children. My oldest graduated from HS in May and now my second son is a senior in HS. My daughter is a freshman in high school. Anyway. I have collected all their school t-shirt to make them each a t-shirt quilt. I just finished One yesterday. I'm a beginner is sewing but it was pretty easy. Looks great too.

Pillow for kids
