Two Craft Fairs in two weeks

Next week-end is a Baby/Child Fair and the following week-end is a Fiesta at a mission at Fort Hunter Ligget - I'll sell a bunch of neck coolers if it is hot...

Great, I hope your sales go well. Here's hoping for hot weather while you're selling!!! I wish there were more summer craft fairs around here but there aren't any till fall time.

Good luck Grandma Bonnie - I have one this coming weekend, the 7th & 8th - an outdoor garden fair - all garden related things. I am excited but nervous as I have never done summer shows before - lots of fall ones usually. Have made all new things for this one! Then there's the dilemna of how to price things - having never sold any of these items before! The worst part!

Well, today I have 15 totems and 16 flowers made. I have 4 weeks before the show so I can probably make several more. The show is only 6 hours and last year I sold 7 totems and 4 plate flowers. Doesn't sound like much but I was happy for my first craft fair. This is a juried event and I was very happy to have been chosen again for this year. I was looking over my receipt book from last year and I sold my colored glass totems for 30 and plain glass for 20 - 25. My one Bluebird totem went for 40. My plate flowers were 20 - 25. I have about 15 of the little mushrooms that I sell 3 for $10. They look so cute in the garden placed in a special area. A lot of effort goes into these craft fairs but it's so much fun! What a fabulous looking booth & beautiful stuff! And those birdhouses rock oak deer, nothing short of amazing! I am the next person in line to agree with the others when they say to mingle with your customers in a sort of chatty, neighborly manner. Sometimes some things need a little explanation in either the design or thought behind it & some things just almost sell themselves with just a bit more of a nudge from you the seller. You can bet that if you are selling something that is different & a good seller, someone next year will be copying your stuff & they'll be at the same show. I like to try to change things up from year to year, but still do some of the same things, just kickin' em up a notch, if you know what I mean. Some of the reasons that one booth might do better than another is if you can find your stuff cheaper & sell it cheaper, your gonna make more sales. That's why I love refurbishing junk & GS finds. You have next to nothing in it & can turn it around & make a good chunk of change off it if you can think of the right thing to make it into. One year, me & DH made some unique signs & was selling them for $20. No one bought a single one, but I had 3 men literally taking measurements & notes on how they were made. I never seen them being sold anywhere else, but I didn't sell them either, only to friends & personal acquaintances. i wish everyone that's doing craft shows this year all the best of luck - we're gonna need it!

Pixie Lou, what are crayon rolls? Here's something I am trying for the first time, although the idea is not new. Buy a pack of regular sized clothespins--the kind that have a spring clip. Choose one side to decorate. Paint that side with acrylic paint. Then mix glossy Mod Podge with a LOT of glitter (maybe equal parts). Use glitter that matches the color of the paint. Paint it on top of the dried paint. Once the Mod Podge dries, the glitter will NOT FLAKE OFF! Then cut up adhesive magnetic strips and glue them to the back of the pin. You sell them as glittered clips that will adhere to a refrigerator, school locker, or file cabinet (for grownup children). A couple of notes (learn from my trial and error). I used paint pens to make decorating easier. I "painted" (drew) multicolor stripes and glittered them, making rainbow clips. I made the mistake of Mod Podge-ing the back of the clips and then the adhesive on the magnet strip would come off after a couple of days. (So leave the wood on the back in its raw state.) The strips stay on better if the clip is attached to the fridge vertically; when it's horizontal the glue seems to pull off more. Each clothespin costs only about two cents from Wal Mart. Kathleen, it's according to when and where you are going. Been to Cozumel a number of times, and twice during spring break, and that is NOT a great time to go, if you are a senior, want peace and quiet. Caribbean, I've never had an unpleasant experience. Alaska, twice, very upscale, quiet, pleasant, once on Celebrity and this past summer Golden Princess, which the latter was my favorite ship. Mediterranean cruise, fantastic! Carnival Freedom Fall foilage cruise, wonderfully quiet, almost too quiet :o) Those that go out of the port of Mobile, in my opinion are big time party, especially spring and summer. I've never witnessed fights, had people go overboard, but have seen drunks on spring break, college students as well as adults, and moreso when leaving port, which is big party time on the poolside deck.

One thing to remember, Arlene is you can always come down, but you can't raise your priceds. Have you looked online to see what others are getting for the same thing? Do you have a really cheap neighbor? I do and I run thing thru her to see if my prices are close. Good luck to ya and remember to have fun!

I sell the neck coolers for $5.00 and when I have a show or at the Farmer's Market, I have quite a few ready to go. They buy both - mostly they buy the ones that are dry ( you have to soak them for 40 minutes the first time you use them) I only put two teaspoons of the crystals in each cooler and I always get asked if I will put the "gel" in them. I gave one to a postal worker and she came back to ask me to give her another one - she never read the directions to soak it... I know that Wal-Mart sells them for $4.00 but they are not as large as mine and do not even last for a month... and I know sporting goods stores that charge $15 for them... I am going down tomorrow morning to see the owner of a health club who wants me to make some with their logo on it for them to sell in their four clubs... Keep your fingers crossed for me... I want to trade her a membership for coolers...

The owner liked them - she sent me to the gal in charge of the pro shop and I had to
oleave a message and NOTHING!!! I was very sick that next week so will try again to reach the gal again - plus leave a new one (COOLER) for the owner to use. >
