Wolf vs Thermadore 36" Gas Range
Comments (4)Hi USBound, I'm sure you'll get a lot of responses to this question, as many of us have these brands. I have the 36" Wolf (dual fuel, not all gas) and had narrowed it down to that and the Thermador when I made my decision. Here's my 2 cents: I selected the Wolf based on the advice of almost all the appliance repiarmen, salespeople, and GW appliance gurus I asked. Although many said the Thermador is a great unit, I was consistently told that the Wolf is the single most reliable, with the fewest repair calls. One person who has moved/installed most of the high-end brands commented that the Wolf is much heavier than the others-- it's built like a tank. When I started researching on various forums, there were just too many people who've had problems with Thermador. A range repair can not only be expensive, but in rare cases damage has occurred to adjacent marble counters during removal of the unit to repair it. (I have marble.) Just curious--did you have 6 burners in the UK? Also curious why you prefer all gas--many on the forum do. Comments (2)The best griddle of these is Wolf. More even temps across the surface and holds temps better over time. BS RNB has the best burners but spotty customer service. Currently have an old electric 36” range but we do have a large propane tank used for whole home generator. This is a vacation/hunting camp, so wouldn’t use it all year long....See Morerhome410

15 years agoFor burned on food and grease on the black underpans we use Dawn Power Dissolver, as recommended by someone here. Fume free oven cleaner also works, but I only tried that once, before I found the Dawn. Be prepared that they will almost always look spattered and any crumbs or smears will show when you're up close to the stove. Others here say theirs look like new, but others, like me, never can get them perfectly clean after the first few uses. We have an 8-burner rangetop, so it's hard to keep up with. If we had fewer burners, I might be motivated to take it apart and clean the whole thing more often. The spottiness is just something you have to decide to live with...Kind of like scratches on our stainless counters.
After dealing with the black underpans and the cast iron grates, I could see why BlueStar's all cast-iron rangetops were popular. The greasy spots on cast iron kind of soak in and it develops a patina that isn't unattractive.
