Anyone putting in white oak floors? Can I see pics?

We have decided to go with 4" nail down, site finished white oak floors as opposed to the prefinished, engineered type. They will be installing the wood right after sheetrock(hopefully coming soon!), but then the sanding, distressing if any, and staining will come closer to the end of the build. I would love to see pictures of other white oak floors if anyone has some to share. Thanks!

Since no one has responded--I have 3" quarter sawn red oak floors if that helps. The main difference between the appearance of red oak and white oak (I'm no expert so I may be wrong) is the color (reddish tint as opposed to greenish/white tint) and the rays in white oak are longer on average than in the red. Also, there is a big difference between the look of quartersawn and regular sawn though, and it sounds like you are going with regular sawn so my pictures probably wouldn't help.

Here is a picture of the corner of my kitchen. Clear white oak, 3 1/2", satin poly, no stain.

I don't think it would look weird to paint your kitchen trim white and have the rest of the main floor keep its oak trim... that was my instinct at the top of the thread and then the photo posted by marybeth1 confirmed it. When we moved into our previous 1926 house, the woodwork was all old varnished fir. Everyone was like, oh, I love that trim! But: it was not an architect-designed house (I think it was a Sears kit house, actually) and I didn't love calling attention to the doors and windows, which were not thoughtfully placed, with the dark trim. I painted it all BM White Dove, and suddenly the house was open, airy, and gorgeous... filled with light. It was an amazing transformation. Everyone who'd been trying to convince me not to paint it wound up saying they were wrong. Now, your house is already pretty airy looking, and your trim is lighter to start with.... but my point is that if you want white trim in the kitchen, do it!!!

I feel sure it has to be Minwax. I don't think different companies would use the same name. Provencial has been around for many years. When the floor guy showed us a sample of the stain on a piece of wood, it was also darker looking, so we were disappointed in the end result. The inset of the diamond was suppose to be darker than the rest of the floor. Stain lightens as it soaks in and dries. I also think that poly has something to do with it looking lighter. And, the amount of light in the room. Our upstairs bonus room (no windows) looks like the color we wanted. I'd be interested to know more about this tung oil that Allison used. In addition, the color on the majority of the floors was suppose to be darker. Make sure that more than 2 coats is put on for a darker finish. Good luck!

Thanks all... really helps me to visualize. Part of my dilemma is that our BC are, though beautiful, pretty standard 3-inch, glossy strips. The floors I am considering for the kitchen are hand-rubbed or hand-scraped looking. Not only do I like the look but they are a more forgiving floor in turns of what shows. It's difficult to find a 3-inch hand-scraped floor, though I think at least matching plank size wouuld be a good idea. Would love to see more...

@HU-783414413, Some of the sample boards can be old and/or faded and not representative of the current dye lots. Also since covid many manufacturers had to source wood from different suppliers, which also affected the look of the end results. You really should order a box of the finish you are considering and at the same time the floor store should have the distributor/manufacturer place a hold on enough inventory in that same lot number for your project. Take a few days to lay out the sample box around your house and then order/pay for the quantity you need. This is the only way to ensure that you really get the correct look and color for the floor you want.

Carolyn, yes, it'll be regular sawn white oak. I'm sure your red oak quarter sawn floors are gorgeous, though.:-)

Our floor is 4" select white oak. It has a red oak stain and a satin poly finish.
The stain was not left on as long as I would have liked so it is more of a medium oak stain color.

1sst, thanks for sharing. Looks pretty. We're wanting a light to medium color, close to yours. Something warm and rich but not so dark to show every dust speck either.:-)

We put in white oak, site-finished floors. I think they are 3 1/4 in. and they are a #2 common so they have some
'distressing' and color variation in them. We just have a clear poly finish, no color.
