Anyone know how to make a cupcake centerpiece?

My granddaughter's first birthday is approaching and being it will be under a tent my daughter thought a cupcake/garden theme would be great. But I'm not sure how to go about making a cupcake for a centerpiece. Any suggestions would help. Thanks

There are nice cupcake holders that are tier shaped. You can find them at Target, Michael's and Joanne's for around $14.00.

There is also a giant cupcake pan you can use. If you go to the holiday forum, there is a post by Kathleen li with a picture of one she made.

And on one of the Sandra Lee shows, she actually stacked about 10 cupcakes on top of an actual round cake for a centerpiece.

You could also just put together a set of stacked plates and sit your cupcakes on them. Staked plates are sort of like a three tiered cake stand, lots of those on the holiday forum too.

Whatever you do, I'm sure your GD will love it.

I use my apple stacker/rack to serve cupcakes....if I want it fancy, I just make a garland of daisies and wind them through the apple stacker before I put the cupcakes in the loops!

Good information, everyone. Following mexicanhat's suggestion I tried eating one- smelled citrusy but had the texture of wood pulp, and no flavor that I could taste. I will pass on eating them (though perhaps a different variety would taste different...). Not having a good thermos, olga, I am going to try boiling them. I plan to try it this wkend. I noticed in the link you included, diane, that mixing rose hips with hibiscus is suggested. Eventually, I found where it said they use the flower of the hibiscus. Mine is already done blooming for this yr, but maybe next yr... If I don't get enough flavor from boiling the rose hips, I will add some lemon. Well, you've got to have high sugar prune plums, which you do. Then they go into the dehydrator. That's the whole thing. The commercial ones don't seem to be all the way dry. I'm not quite sure why they don't spoil. It makes me suspicious. Home dried fruit is always going to be tougher and chewier than commercial dried fruit. We like it better. My son can't stand those gooey candy-like dried Turkish apricots. He says he wants the ones that darken and are a hard chew like leather. If it helps you, I take my fruit out of the dehydrator when it is about 90-95% dry and let it finish drying just air dried. If the fruit is left in the dehydrator too long, it gets darkened like it is burnt. I've got low humidity, so it is safe for me to do that. The dehydrators that you buy cook the fruit a little bit. I suspect that they keep the temperature above optimum to make sure they don't get sued for spoilage. My son has promised to build me a solar dehydrator this winter, so I am hoping to get better dried fruit next year.

I have a problem breathing and here's what I did. I used cardboard from a stiff mailing . Like advertising. I cut it about 7/16" wide by about 2.5" long with scissors. I rolled it up. And I fit it into my nose. Because it's stiff it wanted to unroll. That was good. It tended to unroll and make a larger hole in the nostral to make it easier to breathe through. I was worried that the sharp hard edge on the inside might cut me or hurt my nose if I were to fall asleep but I did it for several weeks and as long and I made the length proper it worked fine. I never had any problem with a cut inside the nostral. I'm a scientist and enjoy making things that work. This was certainly not the 'finished product'. I have tried the typical Breatherite and the plastic he uses is specially designed to be flexible and I've never found a similar plastic. My field is materials. It's certainly , and probably, a specially fabricated plastic that is just as flexible as it has to be. And sadly nothing else that we use uses that kind of plastic. Every plastic I've tried has been too flimsy or not strong enough. Making it stick it not hard to do. DMSO or Acetone is a good degreaser to clean the nose. If you do find a plastic and want to try it use acetone and degrease your nose well before you try to stick something like surgery tape to it. But be careful. Too many cleanings and your nose can turn red from lack of moisture or oils. If you find that this tip works for you I hope you will spend some time , even photo graph it , and do what I have not done. Spread the idea around so other people can benefit from it. I think you could make a display using a variety of plates and heavy glasses to stack them.

Flamingo has the right idea. Just look through your cupboards for glass plates, dessert dishes, glasses, etc. and do some experimental stacking. Only thing is, if there are going to be lots of children running around banging into the table, this is not a good idea! You can also use several different sized flat boxes wrapped in freezer paper and stacked into a tier shape. Sit the cupcakes on the different layers. Might be safer with kids. Sprinkle some flower petals around between the cupcakes. (can be found in the scrapbooking section of craft stores or just tear apart silk flowers). Decorate top of cupcakes with artificial bugs (look at the dollar store), or individual silk flowers or a mixture of both. Sounds fun!

There is a cupcake cake pan available from Wilton(Michael's has it)that could make a for a beautiful centerpiece. Or even a Cupcake shaped Pinanta could work as a centerpiece.
Cupcakes are hot hot hot right now.

Luvs touches on a great point- stability. You could use little dabs of that holding wax to "glue" the glasses and plates together, they sell it in the candle dept at stores to hold tapers upright, also in Christmas shops for use in villages, it's a pliable wax that sticks things together until you pull them apart. It's great stuff- I've had a little container of it for over 15 years and it's still good and useable.

Flower petals are an excellent idea! And so are the plastic bugs. Man, there are some smart and clever people around here.

Zshopper. Luvs emailed and asked I post the pic of the BIG Cupcake by Wilton....This was before it was decorated by my gkids..

Besides the Wilton cupcake stands, Sams Club has one that would suit your purpose, and not too expensive. You can also make ped plates from inexpensive candle holders and plates..

This site has 1000's of cupcakes...good for ideas...

I cant thank everyone enough for all your expertise in learning how to make cupcake centerpieces. I took everyone's advice and put it in my own creation. I went to Michaels and got scrapbook paper and fanned it for the bottom and put it over a flowerpot (.99) then cut a Styrofoam ball (expensive-4.79) and cut it in half for the cupcake top and made small cupcakes and put it them in with toothpicks. I met a lady in the store and she was telling me how she made her centerpieces. So I took a little advice from everyone. What do you think? sorry for the 2 pictures I cant seem to delete one.
