opinions wanted for home decor craft idea
Comments (8)Karen..I like Sal's idea. Here's what my sister did. Her runner had pointed ends. She folded one point over onto the front, the amount she folded over was eyeballed until it looked right.this let the back fabric show on the front. She then sewed by hand through the back, catching the back of the folded down are with stitches, but did not let the stitches show onto the front of the folded down part. She stitched about 1 1/2 to 2 inches down...this made a casing. She then sewed a tassel onto the turned down part's point and pinned on a beautiful brooch she had that co ordinated with the fabric. (could use a fancy button too.) She then slipped in a piece of dowel rod painted to match the tassel color and about 6 inches longer than the runner's width. She placed cup hooks in the wall so that the runner hung just inside them. She put the dowell on the cup hooks, and then she hung satin cording with tassels off the ends of the dowells that stuck out. It looks like a beautiful bell pull..and hangs between her dining room and living room. I think these would make a stunning display grouped together...or on either side of a window or doorway. Let us know what you decide to do. Good idea!!...See Morei need your opinion on this house design!!!
Comments (20)One thought on the architect bit---maybe try hunting in the New Haven area? The Yale Architecture School is terrific and I'd guess you might be able to find some students who'd be willing to consult for a fraction of what the Fairfield Co. pros want---not too long a drive for them, either. Now, they might want to do something crazy modern with your house, but... ;) (But really, if you present it as a challenge to do a traditional design with certain new elements added in, you might actually get some interesting ideas for not too much $$---and then could have your builder draw them up as you'd planned to have everything in order for the permits.) Visually, I think part of what draws your eye to the garage in your second option is that there are three dormers there v. only two on the house, and that stretch of roof is longer. Is there a way to extend the house roof so that it's the longer stretch, and maybe that third dormer is there instead of on the garage? (I think they were intended to be centered over each garage door in that plan, and can see the argument for that---but I do think that contributes to making it seem like a lot of garage.) Not really sure how to go about shifting the "center of mass" per se, but I think if you can work out how to do it---that will help a lot....See MoreCocktail Party Dress - Opinions needed
Comments (22)This is a useful dress. They're showing it rather 'dressed down' except for the strap shoes. IMO it needs some help to qualify as 'cocktail attire'. (Open shoes for sure. A tiny, dressy purse. Crystal or diamond jewelty for sparkle. Possibly a little cocktail hat or other bit of flash in your hair?) The dress is nicely low key for an *office* party. You probably don't want to be 'memorable'! LOL The invitation is encouraging dark suits and dresses -- and discouraging jeans and bland work attire. Will you please report back about the party? Tell us what everyone else was wearing. (This could be interesting!)...See MoreHELP! Need third party opinion on measuring for granite install
Comments (7)Well, all I can say is that in those 2 pictures, the two measuring tapes aren't making a right angle. I can't tell if you mean that's what they are measuring or what you are measuring. I'd wonder if perhaps they aren't doing this in "most efficient" mode because you've got a pretty darned visible seam there, and they're trying to get it at least in the same area of granite from 2 slabs--that L of granite you show sure seems to have a lot of different colors, seems like being even remotely matching would be difficult on the seam....See Moremariend
