help with resin bar top??

I posted this same message over at trash to treasure, so I apoogize to anyone who sees it twice. My husband and I are making a bar out of an old entertainment center. Being an old navy man, he wants to take his collecion of squadron patches and stickers and inlay them in the top with a clear coating over it. Does anyone have any ideas on how to accomplish this? What material to use and how to do it. I did decoupage like 30 years ago, but that would take like 50,000 coats to be thick enough. There has to be some sort of a resin that can be used for the top. I would want something that you could place a drink on also. I forgot to mention that on the other forum. Thanks for any assistance.
