Transitioning between vaulted wood ceiling and regular drywall ceiling
Comments (8)<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><md>Thanks PPF for the suggestion! I appreciate someone actually giving me some practical advice. I will pass this on to the contractor. Wow Jan, you’re quite the positive one aren’t you?! I wasn’t asking for your opinion on the overall design of my house. I’m quite pleased with everything I’ve done in there! And I AM friends with a great electrician, but he hasn’t installed any of the lights in the living room yet. Nor has he finished installing all of the kitchen lights. Plus, I took this picture in the middle of the night last night so it looks much darker than it actually is in there. Thanks for your thoughtful input though. Patricia, it looks like flooring because it is flooring! I couldn’t find any “ceiling” boards that I liked or were wide enough, so we got creative. It’s acacia wood and it looks beautiful. I just wanted help with a trim piece, not redesigning/deconstructing my room!...See MoreVaulted Ceiling - tone on tone paint (walls/ceiling)
Comments (0)I have a family room with a lot of natural light and vaulted ceilings. I am (likely) painting the walls BM Solitude (a blue tone). For the ceiling, my husband wants white but my designer suggested a lighter/softer color so we do not have a huge expanse of white on the large ceiling. So, I will likely paint the ceiling BM Horizon (a subtle blue gray). Has anyone done something like this? I would love to see photos! Thanks!...See MoreCeiling Fan on vaulted Ceiling

Comments (6)A hip would be the type of roof shape. Valleys in roofs are usually created from the footprint of the building. A simple rectangle footprint could have no valley. A simple 'L' footprint could have 1 valley. An 'H' footprint could have 4 valleys, or none at all. If you are concerned with the look of many nested gables, porticos, dormers, and so forth, those can illustrate the footprint or be added to the simplest of roof shapes with nothing to do with the footprint. So anything and everything is possible in any scenario, limited only by your imagination and budget. An interior vault or cathedral ceiling, though affected by the roof layout, is not an overriding concern for the complexity of the roof or shape of footprint. You can have one with a simple roof or complex one. In general, the American vernacular has made an association with steeper roof slopes and more complex shapes and adornment to represent higher cost, quality, and design grandeur. However, these traits alone do not have to represent the term "McMansion." The best way to articulate what you want is through pictures of examples to your design team....See Morephoggie
