By the way, taking pictures of the storage containers and lebeling them is a good idea. I have three such photographs that I keep on the inside of a kitchen cupboard door. That way I never forget where the supplies are stored.

You'd be surprised how many craft supplies can be stored in decorative stacking suitcases that can then sit beside the fireplace and look nice. Or in interesting boxes that adorn the book shelves and entertainment center, etc. My craft room is far less cluttery now that I keep so many of the supplies elsewhere.

I don't have any system. Wish I did. I have some things in containers and some things in PILES ... No matter how I Arrange my stuff - I still don't have room ! This house looked so huge before we moved in - now it's like a sardine can with all the craft stuff around here !

:) currently? half of it's in boxes and crates int he attic- and the other half's in bins in the basement. setting up a crafting area was the first thing that I WANTED to do- but DH convinced me that clearing a place to sleep, eat, hangout, and brush our teeth would be more cost-efficient, workwise.

however- in my last incarnation, I had a workstation made out of a hollow core door on two bookcases (the very first drafting table my dad ever built when he got his license, I might add) and three steamer trunks to hold raw materials.

it was cramped, but I managed-

and I did truely messy things outside.

now- I have plans for a wash sink in the basement, so I can do my tie-dying indoors!

I see that my photos of the craft room have dropped off the gallery. I'll have to find and repost them. I have a nice system (when cleaned up of course) but I don't do anything anymore or not much of anything. Only one GD who soesn't care and 2 DS's who have more than enough stuff to begin with. I'd just like to find a home for a lot of stuff. DS from Germany is coming in the end of the month and we will pack up a bunch of stuff for a friend of his wifes and get it off. So many things are just hard and costly to ship. I have overstuffed files of clippings nad instructions as well as instruction books. I don't even look at the % off coupons in Sunday's papers anymore.

Currently ALL OVER THE HOUSE, in the floor, on the table, in bins..etc... I am really trying to get them all put away where I can remember where they are...lol. I live alone with my two 4 legged babies. They have a room w/a twin bed, my room is full of Mickey Mouse stuff(and of course all my craft stuff) The other room is a sewing room(kind of, still working on it) and am planing to put all my NE Pats stuff in there. Hopefully with all the ideas here (come on need more) I will be able to get all my crafts stored where I can keep up with them.

I have a space above my kitchen cabinets that's about 18" high and I have a tin collection up there with some of my grandmother's dishes, enamel wear etc, and I have little craft items stuffed in all of those tins. I have a list with what's in them written down and in my sewing room.
My sewing room looks like a tornado hit, but I know where everthing is and can walk around the mess.

I reposted some photos of my craft room in the gallery. I had trouble getting some of them to transfer so will try later on those.
In the picture you can see my big filing cabinet. In front of that I have two card tables with a big board and cover over them and my cutting board. To the left you can see storage boxes - they are numbered and I have a listing in my computer of what is in each box.
If you look at the second photo you can see what is under the table and how I have it set up. My clipping and different kinds of craft how-to books in the filing cabinet. I have stamping and paper supplies the the left towards the back.
