I tried running Housecall as suggested in my other post about sound. I don't remember it being so diffficult

I've done this in two postings because this site won't let me say what I want. What's with that? Trend Micro downloaded some files that I'm not sure about. I clicked the first option, but maybe I shouldn't have done that. How do I write what I need to write to get help?

It downloaded something that starts with "J", and apparently I can't mention that here. Then, I was told that my internet was too slow, so I never did get the scan done. I went in and removed "J" (should I have done that?) Then, I did a search and found four instances of it still being on my computer, but it's listed with something I think I need. The size of the file was 0, so it might not even be there. I guess I should have just left well enough alone. I don't remember Housecall being so difficult in the past with my W98 computer. You can see my system stats on my other posting.

Yes, granite is going to be changed, as I won't accept anything else - it's NOT at all what I ordered and it's still at the fabricator's yard - they can fix it. The island and the fireplace are very important because they are focal points. I know that somepeople would have cared less and never even notice, but I did. As far as the fireplace, I have recalled more conversational details. initially, I wanted a pre-made mantel, brought the spec's to the house, and the foreman told us it wouldn't work, unless we built a raised hearth (that I didn't want). I TOLD him at that point "it looked high" and questioned him if it was the same as the model - he ASSURED me it was. I then scraped the mantel - which now, I understand WHY it wouldn't work! He should have worked on making that mantel work - because if he did, we would have had to lower that firebox MONTHS ago! Yesterday I had to go to the house and drop off an item. He (the foreman) was there ripping out the bricks. He turned his back on us and never acknowledged us there! He is making me annoyed - and I KNOW for a fact that he (once again - as we caught him) is lying. I am sure he is blaming us 100% - but at this point, I don't care! I am paying enough for this house and this is important! The stairs - the treads are 10" deep, and the risers I didn't measure, but they aren't high, and step very much like a normal step. These stairs are in the back of our home, and I am not going to make this another area of conflict as it's not that important. Only we (our family) will really see these stairs and we already planned to add the wood treads ourselves at some point. Anyway, I am VERY happy about the fireplace - as looking at the photo's above - it does look strange!

Good job on the fireplace it looks GREAT moved down.... and no one but you will ever know it's not perfect. It fits the wall much better. Gorgeous actually. But more important is that it was IMPORTANT enough to both of you to have it lowered. That's all that matters. As far as the granite....Both edges, the one you wanted and the one they're forcing on you, look to me too substantial for the edging you have on the rest of your granite (again it's a personal thing). One suggestion... have you asked them about other edging styles? One that might satisfy you but less chance of breaking the piece if changed? Several people here have talked about detailed granite edges. I had one in my other home and agree it's a pain to keep clean (toothbrushes helped). But you mentioned the reason they don't want to give you the right one is it probably will destroy the piece. And like you said they have no more pieces in stock. If they cut and break it then have to get another piece it could take several weeks (or months) for the piece to be shipped and fitted. And even then it might not exactly match the pieces already installed. Are you willing to wait for that to move into your home? Or is it such a personal thing that it will truly drive you crazy for years to come if you leave it like it is now? If that is the case rather than the granite place just not getting it right then you owe it to yourself to not give in on this one either. Or give up on the $600. While we were building 3 other couples divorced over their builds. In each instance it was in the final phase of the build when things were getting ripped out over and over to meet one idea of perfection over the other's. I'm not even saying that applies to you... in the least... so please do not take it as such....all I'm saying is sometimes it's more stressful holding on to an idea than it's worth. On my home DH and GC both wanted to do a poplar ceiling painted white in my "rustic" kitchen. I fought tooth and nail over that one and won. I've never regretted it for one minute. You have to decide what to fight for and what to give up. Good luck.

I don't think the SW Oyster Bay looks all that bad, either (and I'm not an expert). If you block out the unfinished area where the two colors meet, it truly does look a lot better. I've never understood how some people are able to test paint swatch colors--even with the real paint sampled on a wall--unless it's primed white or a basic white background is used (such as a large poster board) behind the sample colors. Good luck with your project--looks like you are headed in the right direction!

shower pan sizing mistake?

It turned out that the pan was actually a 60x32 but since about approx 1 inch on each side is lost to installation, the effective elbow room is only 30. Instead of removing the pan and changing fixture and drains (which was turning out to be quite expensive), decided to build an additional 4 inch curb and increase the effective elbow width by about 3-4 inches. Best we could do given the situation. Hoping it turns out ok.

Are you talking java, if so remove all old versions from the add/remove programs, this is the only version that should be there: java runtine (jre) 6 update 3, I am going to give you a link for java, scroll down to where it says "java runtime (jre) 6 update 3, this will not fix the sound, but running an out of date java is an infection risk--I don't understand why you are running virus programs for audio problems xp has a built in sound trouble shooter that is the first thing to try.

How do you find out what version you have? Also, which version do you install - Windows Office?

Jane, it should be listed in Control Panel>Add and Remove Programs.

Click START > help & support > video, game, music, look down a bit click fixing a music or sound problem, now on right side choose SOUND TROUBLE SHOOTER..

Online install version saves some bytes of network traffic as it will be specific to your opperating system.

Download version probably comes with enough files to cover installing on most any windows version... xp, vista, winME,, etc

Got java back...thank you very much....I "had" messed with the volume before my sound problems began...so now we will see if adjusting that will be a fix. The trouble is that it doesn't happen all the time...just part of the time. And..when it does, it is with everything and not just the screen saver. At least I'm feeling not quite so stressed...that's always a good thing

Sounds good, also you can right click the speaker icon down by the clock to adjust or review settings. Intermittent problems are hard to track down so the sound trouble shooter may just give you other ideas, might want to wiggle connections at speaker & back of computer ect, glad you got the java..

I downloaded Java (was very confusing) I now have Java 6 update 3. In add/remove it shows the following:
Java SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1
J2SE Runtime 5.0 Update 6
Java DB10.2.2.0
Java 6 Udate 2
Java 6 Update 3

Do I remove some of these?

Yes un-install all old versions, only keep java 6 update 3

How about Java SE runtime environment 6 upgrade 1
does that need uninstalled?
I have just checked and deleted all but java 6 update 3

Sorry for jumping in am learning alot here I have just the 2 above left in.

Yes that is right only the latest version should be there 6 up-date 3, that is the faster version and most secure, jave is used to display images on web sites..

If something doesnt work afer removing the Java DB...

Have one more question-I notice now that the "recycle bin" is gray where it says "empty recycle bin" but I have "ccleaner" I had it before I took all of java out but Jave 6 update 3, should I have left the "SE runtime 6 update 1" in there?

mikie....what "might not" work after doing this? Everything seems to be working, but I don't want to run across any surprises that I haven't noticed yet. Is there something more we should do after this...I only have Java 6 update 3 listed in add/remove programs.

zep...I don't like ooops...I want to know what oops means in this case :o)

If you have some business connections .. work from home ? or perhaps its from the manufacturer for support to fix your computer, but then you wouldnt be here wudya.

I don't know....guess not...I wasn't sure what Java did in the first place...you're dealin' with a dummy here, but I'm trying to catch on. I was thinking I might have been fast on the trigger for deleting it in the first place...I did it and then had second thoughts...thus this posting :o) You guys know so much...some of it I understand and some I need to read a little closer
