Any cheap ideas for remote control holder???

I would like to make a remote control holder for my son who is contantly losing it in his bedroom. Any quick ideas on how to put one together. I saw something about folding a potholder in half or a placemat and sew it together. Just need something quick and cheap. Thank you.

First you have to make sure he will use the holder or the remote will still be lost.
I'd just take a fabric placemat and sew a pot holder to one end. Then tuck the other end under the bed's mattress. the holder portion hangs out and he can store the remote in it. You usually can get placemats and pot holders at the dollar stores.

When I want to establish a new routine (putting the remote in the same place always) I will make a little sign and attach it to the place where I want the remote to go. As the weeks go by, it becomes routine and they do it automatically without even thinking.

The last few days my main LCD TV has been bawlky at channel changing and the volume has been sluggish and hard to control with the remote. When I would start changing channels it would just keep rolling up thru dozens of channels -rolling from one to the next. Or the volume bar would be hard to move, then just keep moving and get way too loud or too low. It happened with both remotes and new batteries. The TV is 4 yrs old so I thought the Ir receiver was going bad. (I actually put an ad on Craigslist and had a guy coming who wanted to buy it for a computer monitor. Then it seemed to respond better to the remote so I told him not to come). Then later today it was uncontrollable again with the remotes. I decided to google 'LCD rolling thru channels' and stumbled on the answer. The web page said the remote probably had a stuck down key -push them all to free it. I got both the remotes and tried them and they seemed ok in appearance. Then I got out my night vision scope --you can see the Ir flare with a night scope (or your dgital camera). Neither remote was firing without being pressed. Then I looked around the couch and the old DVD player remote was in the remote holder on the arm where we keep some various remotes. The scope showed constant firing of this little remote!! I picked it up and the firing stopped -- it had been pressed down in a tight holder on the couch. To prove the problem I simultaneously pressed the tv volume on the tv remote and a number key on the DVD player remote --- and the TV volume went sluggish- then out of control, and the channel changer did the same. Whoo Hoo!! Thanks again Google and some unnamed dude who posted there!

Very bad luck with cheap walmart RCA brand repeater very good luck with a Xantech kit. Look at the Xantech 291-KIT for a inexpensive solution with four IR repeaters. Our light switch was run to the lanai by the sliding door which is perfect. My PB's crappy electrician was planning to run a conduit along the wall so the box would stick out and there was no way that was going to happen, so before he did the final wiring, my DH went into the attic and ran the wires down inside the block wall and then we chiseled out a hole in the concrete for the box to fit inside. So it looks built in. The spa jet pump switch is also there, which is stupid, because now we almost never use it. We're all manual, so all the other spa settings are at the pool equipment except the jet pump which requires a trip back to the lanai. If I had a light remote, I'd have to establish a shelf or cubby to keep it so it wouldn't get lost, so then why not just have a switch on the wall?

We use different items in each room. You can use like a cup or vase or bucket or box...anything that will hold something. The key isn't the holder, it's teaching them to put things IN it! LOL I about have my family trained! ;)

Best thing I ever did was to put VELCRO on the back of the remote and then place the other side to the wall where I wanted it in the kitchen.
Even the kids remembered to put it back there.
Holders can be moved or misplaced. A piece of velcro attached to the wall is a visual reminder that something is missing.

or attach the velcro to the side of a sofa or recliner.

I've done the velcro thing too, that works really well. And yesterday I made a holder for DH who was always knocking the remote to the floor, crash! I made a bag/pocket and attached it to a rectangle of fabric to drape over the sofas arm. It has a pocket on one side for his pens and pencils on the inside and the remote holder on the other side. He likes it and it hasn't hit the floor yet, so I like that a lot. I used fabric that matches the throw pillows on the sofa, fortunately I had some .

I was going to suggest using a kitchen towel. Fold it up 2/3rds of the way from the bottom & sew (or use fabric glue), across the top. Then sew a "divider" line to make 2 pockets. Then add Velcro on the backside of the top of the towel & adhere it to the top of the boxspring, under the mattress. (if that's where he watches tv in his room)

I live in a small home, but I’m ALWAYS losing my remote!!! How terrible?! So what I did is I took an old wrapping paper roll and cut it down to the size of my remote. Then i added a circle bottom to it. Last step is hook it to the wall! Then ur done!!!

My bedroom remote has a self-adhesive dot of velcro attached to it. The other half of the velcro is on the end of a length of 1/2" ribbon, tied to the headboard.
