slow streaming video

I recently bought a new Gateway computer with Windows Vista Home Premium.... and am having trouble with streaming video.... Videos load up quickly but I cannot fast forward or rewind thru them without having to wait over a minute for the video to start back playing... this is happening both with windows media player and with the video players on the actual sites... i did not have this problem on my old computer with Windows XP... the internet connection type has not changed... is it a anti-virus / firewall setting I could change? - I've tried different things but nothing helps.... thanks for any advice...

You suggest the videos load up quickly, does that mean they are downloaded fast? How much RAM do you have? Remember your Vista has more fancy bells and whistles than XP has so requires that much more of your resources to function. No doubt your new machine has onboard video which will also steal some RAM>

yes, they load up fast... i guess... it's streaming video like on YouTube... so they're not actually downloaded on my computer, right? I can click on a video, it'll start playing within just a few seconds, when I try to fast forward or rewind thru it - that's when it takes well over a minute to start back... i didn't have that problem before... this new computer has 4GB memory... all other applications work much faster than my old computer - including video played from a DVD... it's only video streamed from the internet that I'm having issues with... Again - I didn't have that problem before - so it seems like something to do with the internet settings I would guess..

In my experience just having a computer lacking in specs can slow the experience down, especially with video going. I have 3 computers, 1 is a dinosaur that I don't use anymore, 1 is about +7 years old and this one is fairly newer. I noticed the +7 year old one plays video poorly, usually jerky and pausing to buffer all the time (and sometimes for minutes at a time). I attribute it to that older computer only having 256 kb of ram, where my newest one has 2 gb of ram and video plays fine on it. But yeah, Gardenweb isn't too friendly when it comes to all that, they'll load everything up. I remember when I had to use dial-up on GW, every click took like 5 minutes.

I use a blender. I try to avoid adding water, but occasionally it is needed to get the scraps to chop up nicely. The problem then is, that adding a slurry to the bin usually means it goes anearobic and very smelly within a day or two. So if things end up too wet, I add in some coconut coir to soak up the moisture and let it sit a bit whilst stirring occasionally, until I get a thicker and crumbly consistancy. Actually, I prefer to use leachate rather than water, might as well get the new sraps off to a good microbially active start. Blending can cause a lot moisture to be released in a rush, try blending old watermelon!

I would also say check your cable provider. We got a new box with much faster download speeds. Previously, we could not have the laptops running if someone was watching streaming Netflix, but now we have enough bandwidth to run everything. We have Amazon Prime now, but we dropped Netflix streaming awhile ago because a lot of the series we wanted to watch were not available. No HBO programming is available streaming. SInce we got Prime, we suspended the Netflix. DH has had the account forever and just deactivates and reactivates it when he wants to.
