Last Carol Duvall Taping

Wednesday or Thursday I caught the show of hers that was the last one to be taped. She had on Dee Grunig, and others who have been special guests from the begining. I thought it was interesting that they mentioned having over 1,000 guests on the show. She said that 100 episodes had been taped but not shown yet.

It's good to know there are so many more episodes. I've always enjoyed Carol's show. Are those new episodes going to be aired soon?

Crafters Coast to Coast sure was a disappointing replacement. They have great projects... but I'd sure like to see them lose the obnoxious music and chaotic movement of the camera.... not to mention the camera's obsession with dogs, cats, and scenery!

You said it Candy. I know a lot of us emailed HGTV about that show. I can't even have it on with no sound. it is just too phony for me. I'm sure the crafters must be legit but most look like they've been well coached. I think it is like so many of the new fix-it and decor shows too hippy.

I don't know when they'll start airing the show. I look for the year at the end of the program during the credits.

I'm looking forward to these sort of things happening at the Lake County Extension Office. As I understand it, they only just recently got a replacement Horticultural Expert after being without one for a couple of years. I was told that she's 'really Gung-Ho' about getting things going and having various garden/landscape workshops (Rain Barrel workshops! Yipee!). It's just so far, there hasn't been anything. So instead, I keep watching the Marion and Sumter County Extension Offices and hoping to see something there that I would be willing to drive over to attend. I would be tempted to drive up to Duval for that Spring Garden class, but last time I drove to Jacksonville (two weeks ago, 6 hr round trip) I paid for it with two days of back pain.

Crafters Coast to Coast has good projects. It's a difficult show to watch but if you record it... you can then speed through the annoying travelogs and animal antics. And, if you mute it (till the crafter is actually talking about the project being demonstrated) it's watchable. (is watchable a word?) If you're into jewelry... DIY Jewelry Making has some great ideas. The hostess will drive ya nuts, but the projects are often good. I typically use the internet for ideas. Just type into the search field something like, "fused glass" or "soldered charms" and see what comes up. One site leads to another till I have wayyyyy too many ideas floating around in my head.

Yes they were (the glass blocks) Very nice. The call-in crafter went thru the steps with Carol as to how to do it. One complaint I've always had about her show is that the guests bring such big lovely displays of their work and the cameras only show one or two. I want to see them all on the table. The potato stamp gal was on making stamped velvet shoes for the tree and I fell back asleep during the rest of the program.

Mix this recipe to make the clay. Materials: one cup cornstarch plastic bowl wooden spoon one cup glue one tablespoon of cold cream one tablespoon of glycerin Teflon pan 1/2 cup water Steps: 1. Place cornstarch in a plastic bowl and make a well in the center. Add water little by little and pound the mixture gently with wooden spoon. Do not stir. If lumps appear, use thumb to smash. 2. Add glue all at once, stirring with wooden spoon. Add cold cream and glycerin then move it all into a Teflon pan. The Teflon is especially recommended for this recipe. Heat over a low temperature while stirring with the wooden spoon for three to five minutes until it looks like paste. 3. Remove the mixture from the pan and place it on counter to dry for 10 minutes . If the mixture is too dry, knead in small amounts of water using your hands. If the clay is too sticky, knead in small amounts of cornstarch using your hands. 4. With cold cream on hands, knead the dough until there are no lumps. Store the dough in plastic bags until ready to use. Note: The dough will shrink 20 to 30 percent after forming into desired shapes . It takes longer to dry if you live in a cold weather climate. To accelerate drying in cold weather place the clay in a scrap of cotton material

You're right about the crafters being coached! Nearly all of them hold up an object... then shove it toward the camera... then away from it... three times. Verrrrrry original (rolling eyes here)

I tevo the show and then when I watch it, I speed through the wasted time at the beginning (the travelogue) and I speed through the animals. I mute the show... and I hit the slow motion when it actually shows the project or a step necessary to make it. They do far better close ups of the animals and crafters than they do the actual pieces they're making.

It's sure a lot of work to go through just to watch a craft show LOL
