I just got my Rohls. It's a left drain sink and there seems to be some pooling on the very left side if I move the faucet all the way to the left and run the water. When I run the water with the faucet in the middle, the water goes down properly. Unfortunately, I went to two local shops who said I couldn't look at what they had in stock and pick and choose. And by the time I ordered the in-stock was gone so I had to take what was shipped. I'm going to have the contractor take a look but I think I will just have to be careful not to swing the faucet all the way to the left or I have to use a sponge and move the water to the drain. Not something I would have hoped for for the cost of the sink but since the sink is so large, I think I might be able to get around the problem. My KD was actually against the farm sink for practical reasons. Will see how I like it after a year. It looks gorgeous I added a thin piece of trim below the sink to help prevent water from running down and ruining the cabinet. I will also put a towel on the sink for every day use and just remove it when I have company We got the Modern Lux pull down faucet from Rohl The plumber felt it wasn't their usual quality. He had to take it apart and put it back together so that it got good flow. He thought something in the cartridge was slightly misaligned. So, I do wonder if something is going on with the company.

Hi all! Yes, I'm another person with one of the old original drainboard sinks. I'm happy to add my limited knowledge to the discussion. For the old vintage sinks, some can accommodate a disposal, some cannot -- it depends on the size of the drain hole. Lots only have an 1 1/2" drain, so there's no way to fit a disposal. Ours has a bigger hole (I think ours is 4", I don't remember off hand) so we added a disposal to ours when we did our kitchen. The ability to put a full sized dishwasher underneath probably depends on whether the sink has a front apron or not. The older ones like mine and marylu's wouldn't take a conventional dishwasher because there is not enough height below the apron. The later drainboard sinks from the 40s and 50s do not have a front apron, so you might possibly be able to make a regular dishwasher fit. I think the dishwasher would be wider than the drainboard though, so it might look awkward. My dishwasher is to the right of my sink. If you decide to go the route of an old sink, I'd recommend that you take your time and find one in good enough original condition that you don't need to refinish it. I looked into having mine spruced up and talked to a couple of local re-glazers. They don't really recommend the surface re-glazing for kitchen sinks because of all the abuse they are put through with heavy pots and pans being knocked around...much more abuse than a bathroom sink or tub. There is one company in the midwest (I could track down info in my old project notes if you need me to) that actually sandblasts sinks down to the cast iron and bakes on a new finish. I spent some time talking about the whole process with the owner of the company and he warned me that even that new finish he uses would be thinner and not have the same thick, creamy flow of the old original finishes. My finish isn't perfect, but was passable enough that I kept what I already had. In addition to ebay and craig's list, there are tons of architectural salvage places that deal with vintage plumbing. Believe me, there are NO plumbing issues involved. What MAY be an issue is finding a hardware store--or other source--for the parts you need to do a changeover. The best thing you can do for yourself is get down and climb under your present sink, the neighbor's sink, your family member's sinks, and familiarize yourself with the plumbing that's under there !! While you're down there, check for leaks, and use a ruler/tape measure to get an idea of sizes. Bathroom sinks are usually 1 1/4" diameter thinwall pipe; the tub/shower and the kitchen sink are, or should be, 1 1/2". One thing to remember: the 1 1/2" thinwall pipe hooked directly to the bottom of your sink, and tied into the "S" or "P" traps under there, is NOT NOT NOT the same as the 1 1/2" drain piping; HOWEVER--there are adapters to mate the thinwall to the heavier piping. By the way, you ARE gonna go to the store and find out what a "P" or "S" trap is, aincha?? Dont be afraid to ask Q's, and do realize many of the guys you ask are about as ignorant as you are when it comes to plumbing....many--not all of 'em. THEN: when you find somebody who sounds like (s)he can help you do this project, and they put down on paper the parts you need, the best thing you can do is repeat the process--go find somebody else at another store who can do likewise, and then compare the parts recommended, &c. Maybe this soundz like plumbing 101--you're right, it is. Anything else spellz disaster in the making, not to mention the resultant feeling you bin ripped off and jerked around, and that you coulda done a better job yourself.... if only.... you'd taken to heart the suggestion of: kenn 1RmSchlHse millersport oHIo -- there's a time and place for spontaneity....

Mayflowers - the story about a company's stainless sinks "disappearing from the landscape"--which is a rather dramatic way of saying the sinks were no longer offered for sale--was about the TICOR company, not Kraus. Regarding rust on stainless steel sinks, even well-known stainless steel sink manufacturers like Franke and Blanco warn about rust appearing on THEIR sinks from using steel wool or leaving other metallic items (cans, metal spatulas, etc.) on the sinks so that tiny particles are left on the sink's surface which rust. So your rust warning applies also to Franke, Blanco and any other manufacturer who provides care instructions for their sinks to avoid rust. Your recommendation about finding a sink with American steel is problematic. Major manufacturers like Kohler, Blanco, Franke, and even Elkay source their steel from all over the world, including China. It would be difficult for any consumer to know for sure where the stainless steel in their sink came from. Even if you call the manufacturers, they won't have the information on the sources of each run of stainless steel they buy, which went to which factory, which went to which retailer, and which went to which sink an individual is buying. There are many enthusiastic owners of Kraus sinks on this forum. It's a lot of bang for the buck. Franke, Kohler and Elkay offer the thinner 18-gauge SS, and no grid, at the same price point or higher as Kraus' 16-gauge with grid.
