Help Me Choose A Subzero Unit - Need To Decide Tonight!

I have been looking for two bottom freezer units (right and left hinged as a pair) and have narrowed it down to the following:

736TCI: Two floor models are available, manufactured 7/12 and 3/13 respectively. This is for two 36" units. Price is $12,400 with delivery included.

700TCI: Two display models are available, manufactured 2/11 and 1/10 respectively. This is for two 27 inch units. Price is $9500, with delivery included. No factory warranty, but they will include a 5 year after market warranty.

Brand New Model IT30CI: Two new models, with ice makers and no water dispensers. This is for two 30" units. Price is $14,000 with delivery included. Full factory warranty.

My preference is the new model, but my husband is not liking the idea of spending this much on a refrigerator. I am wondering if the new model is enough better to justify the cost difference? Can anyone chime in? We have a large family, so can use the extra space in the larger units, but even the smallest one has more space than our current refrigerator. Please help me decide.

no, on the 736 - it's too wide for your armoire design.

no, on the 700 as $4250 for a 3 year old fridge with no warranty is not a good value !

BTW - why do these not have a warranty? Is this not an authorized dealer ?

This leaves the 30CI. The price you quoted is actually less than retail , so with tax and delivery they are a good deal.

In terms of "deals" the first two are not. You're being quoted close to full retail on units that are 1-4 years old.

Let me spell out the economics your hubby can wrap his head around. "would you rather have this (pointing) USED, expensive, fridge, car , television, set of golf clubs, ect...

- or -

for only 12% more money , get this (pointing) BRAND NEW, fridge, car tv, ect.... along with a FULL WARRANTY ? "

$1600 bucks is short money on a six figure+ remodel or house.

I realize this may be a little late, but thought I would throw in my two cents. I currently have a 20 year old Subzero 590 that has been flawless in its operation. It was 3K at the time, which was a lot of money, but other than one slight problem with the icemaker early on, it has never required service. I considered re-using it in my remodel, but in the end, our new configuration requires the use of separate units. That being said, I was not about to pay the going rate at our local authorized dealer. I started to search ebay and purchased a BI36 all frig and a 27" 700TFI all freezer, both panel ready. I did not want or need a 36" freezer and they are in different spaces in the kitchen. Both were 4K each including shipping and no tax. I checked the serial numbers with Subzero before I purchased each of them, as they were from different sellers, just to make sure I had full warranty. I had the luxury of time on my side, so I was able to take my time and wait until I found the units I was looking for at the price I was willing to pay. BTW, I also found my Capital rangetop the same way. Paid $2999 for a 48" culinarian with grill. Brand new in box.

You have a very lovely space but it strikes me as being very monochromatic. I would forego buying the rugs from India and choose from the vast selection that's available here which can be tried out and returned if it's not suitable. Furthermore, I would buy two rugs. One would go under the dining table and be larger than the one you have there which looks a bit small for that area. Secondly I would pick out much richer, bolder colors for both areas to make your spaces more dramatic and interesting. You could then take a particular color from the living room rug and repeat it in the drapes (I would choose one of the lighter colors for the drapes) and you'll have a stunning, finished-looking room, especially if you add some vibrant art work to the walls. Most people tend to be too safe with their decorating choices and then wonder why their homes don't look like the ones in decorator magazines. Strangely enough, neutral and "safe" colors make you lose interest in a room long before the vibrant color scheme does, which makes you happy every time you enter that room. Some green plants would also help to ease the static quality of the present decor. When I say vibrant, by the way, I don't mean loud and garish. Use the colors you love. I suspect you've tried rather hard to stay "safe" and that does a disservice to your beautiful spaces. I do hope I haven't offended you in any way since I've gone far beyond the question you posed, but I would so love to see you make the most of your surroundings. Since I've already burned my boats, may I suggest floor or table lamps in your living room? Overhead lights can be harsh and are not really good for reading and close work. You'll also be amazed at how warm and livable it will make your room look. Again, please believe I mean no offense but would just love to be of help.

Ack: You need more time to think about this! Lordy, it took me a year to pick a paint color. (But then, I have "kitchen issues") :-P I love to see painted cabs in period kitchens. Chipping away at the layers of paint, I found that my kithcen had been: drab blue (and I use the word "drab" lovingly. I was also going to suggest, as someone did above, the blue in kimmieb's kitchen), drab yellowish-brown, drab green, and drab pink. So, those are the 4 color families (The Drabs) that I myself love in vintage kitchens. I decided to go for drab yellow, and while I love my tiny yellow kitchen, the color ended up being a little too cheery. Remember: I wanted drab. I used BM Barley (with the lightest yellow on that card on the walls), and I wish I would have gone darker because Barley would have been perfect on my walls. Same colors are in the breakfast room. Depending on the lighting it changes from cheery yellow (boo!) to drab beigey-yellow (yay!)

Hi everyone and thanks so much for the measurements and lovely fireplace photos. The fireplace guys came today to install the firebox and place it on a box 10 inches high as per our morning instructions regarding the future hearth height. The actual surround, hearth, etc will not be done for a while. It is wonderful to have some heat for Christmas as we have all been living in a house under construction with hardly any insulation and no heat but space heaters (yes we are in cold Canada). However, after reading over your height suggestions, I am now worried we should have asked to have the firebox set higher than 10 inches (would like in a pinch to have the extra seating spot). The firebox itself does have a bottom vent, so the fire part is not flush with the bottom so is higher up. Below is a sketch of the planned fireplace with window seat and TV shelf. can you please help with this. we decided the best thing to do is hook into the main HVAC for the living areas, Remove the bedroom HVAC all together. then replace the main HVAC unit with a state of the art 3 stage system (he uses american standard) Here is my question. Today in Florida it is 49 degrees! freezing for here. humidity in the house is like 20% but for some reason in my bedroom its like 60% (no ac running cuz its cold) Same floor, same type doors and windows, adjacent to living space, My room always feels damp. smells like mildew. Two mold companies have come and tested with meters to look for moisture in the floor or behind the walls and found none. I am convinced there is some sort of dampness present in this room (no carpets or drapes ) only tile, wood furniture. not much clutter, closets have been emptied into another room in prep for remediation, new roof, ducts have been cleaned, attic crawl space has been checked. HVAC unit is not dripping or clogged(that i can see, was just serviced and uv light added) the HVAC plenum is dry (although there is mold on the drywall in there) waiting for remdeation. My question is where else can i look for a moisture source? does mildew (smelling like damp towels that have sat for a while) have to mean there is a sitting water source somewhere? any other ideas. isnt it logical that if its a freezing day here i shouldnt need AC to draw humidity out of my room today?!

Ok, I've now found two of the 700TCI units for a combined price of $7000, delivered. Display models, from 2010. This is half the price of the new model 30 inch units. One comes with manufacturer's warranty and the other unit, I'm not sure. Does this change your mind, Xedos? It's hard to justify twice the price for an extra 6" of refrigerator space and a newer model.

Wilson, thanks for the info. Yes, some of these units I have found on eBay. The others from a local person who sells display models. It's good to hear that this worked out for you. I have heard mixed reviews on the 700 series. Hopefully if I purchase these they will last as long as your 500 series unit.
