Sound on a laptop

HP Dv6, - Suddenly on videos the volume is very soft. It is not low on something like dealing a deck of cards on a game. I ran the test and it says it is working properly. Any suggestions.

One thing can help is the following. Right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select 'Playback Devices'. Left click the default device once to highlight it ( it's usually 'speakers & headphones' ) then click the Properties button. Click the Enhancements tab and put a tick in the box next to 'Loudness Equalization'. Click Apply to save the change and then click OK in all remaining windows and see if this has helped at all.

If the videos are on Youtube check to see their volume control. There was a spell where the sound was off on some videos for whatever reason.

Kudzu9--I didn't see your suggestion before my last post. I just tested that and it's just another way to change the volume. If I set it all the way down using the Fn-F11, then look in control panel, the volume slider is all the way to the left. I haven't tried any headphones, but they're basically just another variation of an unpowered speaker, so my expectation is that they'd be pretty much inaudible. Since she wants to use the laptop to play audio books while in several rooms, headphones wouldn't be useful to her anyway.

the links in owbist post are for the version of that laptop with the intel dual core processor that is very different than the celeron processor version you posted asking about. The dual core would be a much better choice however it is of course more expensive, well worth it though. They seem to use the same model number with various processor choices which is a bit confusing. Celerons just do not have much power especially if you will be using it in your office applications.

See the little volume slider to the right of the speaker icon on the youtube player ... can you slide it to the right ? You might need to delete all your cookies which remembers that speaker setting - or update your flash player.

Zep, I followed your directions so I will test it.
Also in the past on any video, Utube etc I had the option of turning the volume up. Now all I get it icon - if I click on it the only offer is "mute".

It's the only option I get too, to the right of the speaker icon is a slider, using the mouse, you can drag it all the way over to the right for increased volume. That's how it works for me.
