What size trash can for pullout should I get?

What size trash can for pullout should I get? I'm wondering what most people have. We are a family of 2 adults and 4 kids ages 5 and under. We can generate a lot of trash. My cabinet maker is saying I would be fine with a double pullout (trash/recycling) where each can is 35 gallons. If I have the drawer setup that I want, I only have room for a 15" wide trash pull out with these specs:

Width: (inches) 15

Depth: (inches) 22.500 / 24.500

Height: (inches) 17.875

However, if I compromise, I could lose a few inches from somewhere else and lose a top drawer and get a 50 gal double trash in an 18" wide pull out.

Width: (inches) 18

Depth: (inches) 23 / 24.500

Height: (inches) 21.75

What would you do? are a 17.875" tall trash cans enough, or should I compromise on other things and be sure to get the 21.75" tall trash can. Both are shorter than the stand alone foot pedal trash can that we have now and I'm worried about having trash cans that are too small.

Thanks so much for your input.
