Noisy Neighbors: Management Useless, Can I Break My Lease?
Comments (6)I'm pretty sure she knows that it's way too loud. She doesn't actually believe the maintenance guy is racist, if she does then she needs her head examined. I think she's stalling because she doesn't want to kick out paying tenants. I've actually tried to arrange something with the manager, because my neighbors usually start up around 6:30pm, half-an-hour after the office closes and all-day on Sundays when the office isn't open at all. The problem is, the office is usually closed by the time I get home from work. Tuesdays are the only days I'm home before 6pm and I think they've caught onto my pattern because she's always busy now when I show up and she's off on Saturdays. I've left messages with her assistants but she's totally dodging me. I sent an email to the regional manager last night, I don't have their phone number and can't find it for the life of me. It'll probably be a week or so before I hear anything back. As for my neighbors, they're friends with the people who live next door to them. The guy who lives above them is deaf (I'm not joking he's actually deaf). The woman who lives directly across from them works evenings and doesn't get home until midnight, but she actually told me that she can sometimes hear their television in her living room during the day, but she doesn't want to get involved. I think I can work on her and she might be willing to talk to the manager, if I can ever get a hold of her, but I still don't think my manager will do anything. If the regional manager won't get involved, can I break my lease without shelling out the subsequent fine?...See Morehow do i break up the all white tile look in my small bathroom
Comments (7)I like timeless tile schemes also, like your all white...and have learned from experience and too much analyzation of inspiration images that texture and layers trump color for impact. Break your white up by using shadow as a color- variences in tile depth when trim pieces are added (chair rails, bullnose, baseboards...) break up the flatness of simple field tile. Adding a horizontal line with trim at a traditional or non-traditional height and/or changing the direction of the subway for some portion of the room- breaks it up and keeps your options open for adding color to less perminant layers in the room. Also, you're right on about adding a bit of color between the floor and walls- I don't think matching wall base tile to the floor border tile is the best solution...keep the plane-change-line sharp. If you use small hex for the floor, consider a contrast by inserting a grey hex every 1/2 foot or so (the wide-spread polka dot effect will open the area too)or add the grey hex as a 3-4" solid or checked floor border around the entire room. Since there will be little color contrast on the walls, a contrast where floor meets wall is warming because it grounds the room. This is fun, huh? kat...See MoreHow do I break it to my son...?
Comments (3)How old is your son? Assuming he is in elementary school, I would keep a couple of things in mind when you tell him. First, take him somewhere neutral where he can't go running off to his room (make an ice-cream shoppe?). Your tone will be hugely important. You don't want to convey that you are 'discussing' this in the sense that you are looking for his input to make this decision. You have to walk that fine line of being confident and positive about your decision, but empathetic about his feelings of leaving the familiar, the potential loss of his friends, etc. Like all of us, children want to be *heard*, so really listen. And you don't have to have a solution to everything... "But I'll NEVER see my friends!!!" Clarify and empathize before you offer a fix for anything. "Are you worried that you won't see them every day? Or that you'll never see them again in your whole life?" "How would you feel about seeing friends at least twice a week after school?" If there are specific things about the school that will appeal to him (a computer club, a certain sports team...) bring those up AFTER you have won him over a little bit. Don't look for him to accept and rejoice in this decision quickly -give him empathy and time to adjust. But just don't waver or give him false hope that enough of a tantrum will change things. Good luck, I know this is hard. But it is the right thing to do......See MoreHow should I update my wood burning stove?
Comments (0)I have a super awesome wood burning stove in my home, that we’re currently updating. Drywall is up - yay. I was wondering how I could update the stove, I was thinking of painting the brick or even switching out the stove for a new one but would also need to update the flute and im not sure how easy a task that is? im also wondering how i can design an entertainment center or tv on this blank wall. the opposite wall is a sliding door and to the right of the fire place is a large opening into the dining/formal living room. Any fire place update/room designs would be great!...See Moresteve_o
