Which central vac dust pan?
Comments (5)I have the VacPan. I haven't seen the VacuSweep. Mine is placed under the toe kick. I had asked for it to be placed behind the door where there is no toe kick so that I could easily locate it visually to operate. The installer pushed for placement under the toe kick. The idea being that I would learn where the lever was with time and that I wouldn't accidentally catch clothing on it etc. I still think that behind the door would have been the best placement because even though I know where the lever is it takes a moment to get it positioned properly and even then I need to bend down to look under the toe kick to make sure everything went into the pan. I will say that the VacPan has a secure/positive closure and I never hear air escaping. I've only been using the system for about 3 months. I'm still getting used to the central vac in general....See MoreI just tested regular central vac and Hide a Hose system
Comments (66)The first one I had was Ricar when the house was being built. They came out about 4 times. It would work when they left, but still never enough power. Then I would have trouble with the hoses not going in or coming out. Then I got electrolux to come out and they put in all new ports or outlets, and new hoses. Still not enough power and the same with the hose problems. They did do a few things in the attic with the pipes. Now I have Drainvac which is the high powered unit I got the electrician to install. Great suction power but hoses still get stuff in the pipes. If I only had clear pipes I could see where the blockage is. We have a call into the head people at the original company that installed the pipes. It was a Hide A Hose system. We are hoping they will recommend someone who really knows how the install and service them. I have almost 9k in this system now and still not happy. My sister built a new house the same time and did not want it. She has a rainbow somebody gave her. She is laughing all the time about what I am going thru. I never had any trouble before until I got Hide a Hose....See MoreAnyone have a retractable hose central vac system?
Comments (7)I do and I love it! I have the Maxair, Vacuflo. We were referred to an installer by the 'hide a hose' people. Finding an installer was the hard part. We have 3, 40 foot hoses, each strategically located in our home, so we can reach every area. It is very easy to pull out the hose, attach the wand, switch on the button located on the wand handle, and vacuum. When finished remove the hose from the wand and while the unit is still on suction into the installed pipes in the wall, turn off....See MoreCentral Vac System -My Builder's response!
Comments (20)The house we lived in for the past 23 years had a central vac when we moved in. No clogs in that time, although one of our foreign exchange students DID suck up one of his socks under his bed once. He was fascinated by our central vac (even took photos of it to send home to his family) and thought it was hilarious! After a lot of cursing, DH found the sock inside the hose near the junction with the wall outlet, using a clothes hanger...simplest tool known to mankind. Our new house has a central vac and vacpan. The GC didn't blink when I said that I wanted a central vacuum. I love it...or as much as a person can love a vacuum...a dreaded household task!...See Moredavid_cary
