Thanks to all who have helped with advice and information!

I am finally able to have a little time to post pics! We finished our project as owner/builders doing A LOT of the work ourselves! I would never start over again but we learned so much through the process. Would be glad to help others in any way I can! Thanks again! Hope you enjoy the pics!

The inside is simply lovely! Congratulations- you all did a great job. My favorite pic is of your cat enjoying the tree...I love tuxedo cats!!

Your home is just stunning! I love it! Your kitchen is beautiful. I love the copper sink, faucets, etc. Great taste! Even your cat is perfect! LOL!

Hi again, To answer a few of your more recent questions: The shingles are Landmark 30 year shingles in Black Moire. As for the lighting fixtures, I got the pendants and the chandelier in the dining room from American Lighting here in Knoxville. I wish I could tell you the brand but I can't remember. I picked them from a catalog. The ceiling fans all came from Lowes. And the sofa is made by Broyhill. I found the style on their website and went to a local furniture store to pick out the fabric. It was literally 1/2 the price of a similar one I had wanted from Pottery Barn and it is a very well made and comfortable sofa.

Thanks for letting me know those are Flor tiles, Sue! Even better! They would likely work better than the rug I have in my kitchen because the ends of the rug are bulky and get in the way of the trash compactor opening. I have been having a hard time finding the right long rug for the hallway that will run from our front door to the mudroom, too. I will have to keep an eye out for good deals on flor tiles while we do that part of our remodel. I have been really enjoying the home decor forum here now that our kitchen is mostly done, and we will be starting on the rest of the house this spring. We just got cafe curtains hung in the kitchen and dining room today, so it was nice to see your curtains, too. Just enough for privacy, but still lets the light in...

We took early possession (because we had to be out of our house) and we moved in on Thursday (the 11th of August). We were living in a 1925 Colonial Revival with more than 2,500 square feet and that did not include the full basement (which was a nice space) and a full attic (with its permanent staircase off the upstairs hallway). In other words, it was a massive house, and we had it stuffed to the gills. Moving into our 2,100 square foot brick ranch required some downsizing - which made me happy, happy, happy. We gave away several pieces of furniture, which also made me happy, happy, happy. And I made at least 10 trips to Goodwill with my car stuffed with boxes and bags of donations. My husband owns 90% of the stuff and furniture in our house, and it's just way too much. When I met him, I was a starving writer and I owned two bookcases, one bed (no dresser), one couch and a computer. (I lived a simple life.) So this was an opportunity to shed some of this stuff. I'm so tired of stuff. I really hate stuff. Our new house is on a crawl space (no basement) and the only storage is a small attic area over the garage (only accessible via a rickety pull-down staircase), and a shed in the back. Here are some more photos! :) The new fence went in today! Teddy is a free dog again! She cried like a baby when she was tethered in the back yard. Such a wuss. I told her repeatedly that some dogs live their LIFE on a tether, but she only cried all the more. The yard was fenced on both sides, but we needed to add a piece of connecting fence from the house to the sides. This is the privacy fence, and it was the small piece of fence. I’m not sure I haven’t deleted anything. I do take everyone’s comments seriously but some of the things people were pointing out cannot be changed right now or we don’t want it to be changed. Thank you for pointing out the cabinets I will look into it for sure. I’m very confident that our house will be built to our standards we have walked through many of our builders homes and have even talked with past customers who say they love their homes and the craftsmanship that was put into it. When it comes to contentment it is partly that for sure at least for my husband and I. When you see houses or interiors you wish you could have but at the end of the day know you cannot afford it you do have to be content. There was a home plan from our builder that we absolutely loved but no way we could have afforded it so we looked at every other plan they had until we found this one that was in our budget and loved equally. It won’t be the biggest fanciest house in our subdivision but it works perfectly for us the way it is. When I asked about changes I meant interior color choices or our carpet, tile, quartz etc...not layout changes or anything like that because we don’t have the budget for that nor do we want it changed so I guess I should have been more clear. I get that everyone’s advice here is invaluable and I’m glad I was given it and I do appreciate it. But we are keeping our home the way it is.

There are so many wonderful touches in your home, congratulations! I love the exterior and the interior, but that beautiful view blows everything away. Lucky you! We have what seems like very similar wrought iron stair ballusters. Great taste;-) Enjoy your new home, it's just lovely.

Wow! That is just gorgeous! I love the staircase and your kitchen is to die for! Have you been in a whole year and you're just now posting pictures? 30 lashes with a wet noodle! LOL!

You'll have to excuse my ignorance....what is the purpose of the lowered baking area? Is it a feature to ease baking preparation?

Christine, your new home is absolutely beautiful and I love the style. May I ask for some information regarding paint and mantel? Can you tell me the paint color/brand in the living area and the width measurement on your mantel? We are building a mantel and trying to get an idea on how wide we need to build it. Thanks so much.

Thank you for the kind responses! Yes it has been nearly a year, but since we did the owner/builder and I was the GC and
onsite "task master with whip", it has taken me that long to recover! We rented a trailer from our neighbor and while my DH was at work 12 hours a day (someone had to earn the money to pay the subs) my disabled son (19 yrs old) and myself all 5'5" 120 pounds of me ran the crew for building our home and my Mom's. Like I said, I am still recovering! It is by the grace of God that I am alive at all. Now isn't that an encouragement to be an owner/builder! I am looking up my paint colors and the fireplace information and will post tommorrow! Thanks again!

Your house is beautiful. I was looking at your photos and saw the persimmon grove and I was thinking that mountain looks like my mountain. My house is across the valley on the other side of Lake Skinner and we were at Wilson Creek last night. Small world. I love everything you've done. Congratulations.

It seems to me that a home this style could easily become cold or uninviting or, at the very least, provide for some very interesting design hurdles. You've done quite well with it. You've maintained that stately feeling of a home that should last through the 22nd century, while making it cozy enough to settle into.

I'm not bright enough to express the impression I get from your home well, so please just except this as another "nice house".

WOW.... So diferent from stuff up here in connecticut, but I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!! WOW I love just about everything but especially the exterior! Tell me about the house, how many sq ft? Did you desighn it yourself? Your house is one of those that you never considered than see and say wow maybe I sould have done something like that! Is this your first build?

Thank you for the comments. My hubby did all the columns cabinets and the fireplace in the living room! The mantel is
Foster mantel unfinished dental molding style 60" from Lowes(a regular in stock item here is so.Calif),
the pilaster sides are also from the same company with the routing all ready done. The rest of the detail and the face wood (below mantel) are pieces of finish grade pine unfinished that hubby bought and cut to complete the detail. DH suggested that you take the pics to Lowes and ask them to match up the trims and detail pieces for you. We don't have the names of them. I took some more pics and will post them for you to see more detail. The living room walls are Sherwin Williams Barley. The fireplace was painted in Killz primer from either home depot or Lowes. The finish color of fireplace and all moldings and cabinets (white) and trim is Sherman Williams too. Let me know if you need any other info! Here are the detail pics

Thank you for the comments! I am updating the pics because I have gotten a ton of emails asking for more details. It is 4887 square feet. The exterior is an updated Southern Georgian colonial plantation style. We did design it ourselves but we looked at literally thousands of historical and new home plans and combined all the things we wanted in a home and then we took our designs to an architect. We are in our late 40's and have spent about 30 years studying houses, architectural history and landscaping (we love to garden and design landscape too) but all this is just a hobby. We are business owners (sportswear co.) Yes it is our first build from dirt up! We have done remodeling and semi-custom tract homes before. I would be happy to give you any other information you would like. Thanks for the compliments!

Yes we are neighbors of the Wilson's. What a small world indeed! I guess the mountain is "our" mountain! Did you build your home also? I would love to see pics and hear about it!

Christine, it a wonderful home !!! Beautiful... I think we have seen your house in person... Are you in a gated community? Our friends bought the property about 2 years ago... and we visited them last summer. I remember a house that looked just like yours next to their property...but their address was in Murietta...
Anyway, gorgeous home !!!! Congratulations !!!
