You call the White House, ask them to confirm They say it's phony and ignore it. What more would you want them to do?

What more do you want Fed Ex to do? I don't understand why you called them.

I believe these "people" should be tracked down and arrested...that's what I think, also feel that way about some Presidents.

As for what Fed Ex, should do, if some one goes around trying to do damage and say they are me, I'll go looking for them myself.

Fed Ex has no "responsibility" as you suggest.

Just like when you walk down a city street, or you receive a call on a con scheme, we live our lives at risk to be victims of evil doers. The same is true about having any activity on the internet.

Have an ounce of common sense in what you see and do and you'll have no problems. It's that simple. It isn't worth any more of your or my time than has already been spent.

Sadly, those messages are sent out by the millions every day. I probably get at least one a week that purports to be from the USPS, Fedex, or UPS. Legal authorities have enough trouble tracking down cyber criminals who steal millions. No one has the resources or interest to go after annoying small potatoes like these jerks who send out crap like you got. The cost of using the internet is accepting that you have to wear hip boots to wade through the swamp.

The weapon against any such attack is to "NEVER EXECUTE a file which has been sent to you ... where YOU did not initiate the interaction).

Banks, credit cards, even ebay are interested in such activity, and provide links to report it.

Well, in my simple minded case my wife called me in, she was coincidentally it seem engaged in another unwanted activity: buying health insurance on the insurance exchange because we were not allowed to keep our current insurance. So, it was entirely possible we got a special deliver for signature FedEx rejecting her, for example. But, she asked for my advice before even opening the email. I said it is safe (reasonable risk) to open the email and see what it says. There we found the fake FedExp telling us to open/execute the attached file. I said: "no way" call Fed Ex and see what they think, did they try to deliver. She called they said SPAM.

My next though was to take some action to help save someone less capacious, or as the Obamacare Economist from MIT involved in the draft legislation said the legislation was done behind the curtain because the US public is too stupid to handle the truth. Well, with these fellow stupid types I finally decided to post a warning here on CompHelp.. not really a computer help, so much as a warning.

As for Federal Express and the other poor billion $$ industries that can't afford to give this attention I can say I think that is a disrespectful way for a company to treat their customers, and should I have the opportunity to ship something soon, I'll take extra steps if needed to avoid using FedExpress.

I totally agree with Jerry-nj. These people should be stopped. There are so many elderly and young people who believe these scams and would click on it. I live in Florida with many elderly people who are not computer savvy nor able to navigate these scams. So many elderly people live alone and have to one to advise them or help them.

It makes me sick and they should be stopped. Frankly, some are quite sophisticated and take a slow finger to stop from clicking on these emails.

There should be a website or offical site which compiles this stuff and goes after them. Doesn't the US Post Office do this? I think they did in the past.

I think there should be more regulation of the internet. Assuming most people using computers are computer savvy or have the intellect of a young person is wrong. There needs to be some form of protection.

How did you figure Fed Ex "got" your email address? Fed Ex doesn't normally send emails to delivery addressees. What is it about this incident that makes you think you're a customer? What did you pay them to do?

A bit of thought and common sense are what's needed to avoid having problems when using the internet. Those who are without both will have problems.

Jerry- Your experience was unfortunate, but I still can't understand why you are annoyed at Fedex. If I got spam in my inbox that came from someone who had hijacked your email address, I wouldn't hold you responsible or expect you to conduct an investigation. There is an overwhelming number of spammers and hackers doing this stuff, and often they operate from obscure places, like Moldova or Vanuatu, where they are pretty much beyond the reach of U.S. authorities. There is really nothing that can be done, even if you could track them down. The only thing you can realistically do is be cautious and not click on embedded hot links. Legitimate companies like Fedex typically never communicate this way. Be glad you're educated about this now, but stop holding others responsible for things they have no control over.

I'm sure I will be flamed for being too harsh, but unfortunately sometimes there is no other way.

The idea that "these people should be stopped" and "there should be more regulation of the Internet" is idiocy bordering on insanity. The evildoers are so numerous and so widespread that any conventional means of reducing or eliminating their activities is not only impossible but would involve an amount of time-effort-resources which is simply unavailable and never will be. Remember THE WAR ON DRUGS? How is that workin' out for ya? THE WAR ON POVERTY? That never worked well either...still too many poor people in this world. But the amounts spent on these efforts are staggering and mostly ineffective.

Aside from the fact that the evildoers want to steal your money and make your life miserable, there is this one simple truth: THEY ARE DOING THIS BECAUSE THEY CAN. Their knowledge of computers and the Internet is far beyond the level of average users, and they know that their victims really are too stupid to use a computer and will do little or nothing to protect themselves.

Congrats to the OP for escaping the trap and thanks for spreading the word, but venting your frustration on FedEx is laughable and worthy of ridicule. FE is just a tool that the scammer tried to use to lure you into the trap. It could just as easily been someone else. If the next scam comes from "UPS" and the one after that comes from the "United States Postal Service" and you decide to stop using them too, who will you be shipping your next package with?

Well, aside from the defenders of FedEx (work there snidely?), I am amazed at the defenders of the private sector as being poor victims and not part of the solution. I have in the past, rarely, notified companies such as my Credit Union when I got something that looked suspicious in the belief they would either warn their customers or,and, take some action to block/prosecute the offenders. FedEx, said to my wife not me, was SPAM... a shirk of any connection to the problem.

As form someone using my name, ID theft too is a concern in web attacks, they better not get within gun shot distance of me.

As for government involvement, I am in general an advocate of the free market economy and minimum government...but that said, I support government involvement in national defense and highway and safety... and a few other things. When someone holds me up in the street with a gun, I expect the full resources of the police to be brought to bear to catch and prosecute and I feel the same about the thugs on the Internet.

One small thing we can all do is spread the word when some attack is discovered that has a lot of "common appeal", having nothing to do with being stupid... as Tom Hanks said in a role he played in a popular move: "Stupid is as Stupid Does". Some have wondered what he means, to me he means those who call or infer in a haughty manner others are stupid need to look deeper in the mirror and repeat the Tom quote above..

Old school, definitely and believe using the telephone is a completely decoupled way to check on the Internet. But, I am about to give up on my "wireline" phone.. too much $$ going into the communications money trap.

I get a lot of "SPAM" I don't want to block and the "BLOCKERS" are in my experience are "stupid". My ISP blocks some items and so far I haven't objected to what was blocked.

Speaking on "don't click on links" I note your "Link" in the email notice I got of your reply. I didn't click on it.

A simple pro-active network FedEx could contribute to or create if it doesn't already exist is one in which it can report complaints on a list made available to ISPs to enrich their Blockers. It would be nice to know millions of such email are blocked not out there loading inboxes and undoubtedly finding may trusting (a problem many older people have) folks who click on the provided links.
