My apple told me that their security certificate to encrypt data during transmission expired on 12/22/07 @ 5:59 pm. It was issued to Auth@gardenweb. Organization- General Electric Company. Org Unit- NBC. Issued by Trusted Secure Cert. Authority. Sounds to me like they paid for a service for a while- and their paid subscription is over for that service. I think our computer/cookies are used to seeing that info, and are telling us about the change in service. I am not sure what it means here at GW- but I think that is what is going on. I do hope that our personal information we registered with is still secure...

Thanks everyone for the nice comments. To answer the previous questions: Yes, I do (carefully) direct sow seeds four to a square and sow a few seeds in each spot, thinning after germination. I also sometimes start the seeds in an APS-24 and transplant them into their spots. As to fighting the heat, well being closer to the coast than east SD county, the heat has stayed mostly away due to coastal "June Gloom." As I replant behind these though, I will be looking for more heat tolerant varieties....I also have a second lettuce box, a smaller 1x2 that I made out of scrap wood. That one gets moved to another spot so it gets the benefit of afternoon shade from our backyard tree during the hottest times of the day. Here's a pic of my other lettuce box. This is a "cut & come again" lettuce mix that gets sowed by thinnly scattering the seeds. No use of squares here. I just cut across the top as I need lettuce. So far this box has produced four times for me. Also note that I use a light weight row cover over my lettuces. This isn't so much to protect from bugs but rather, from birds. The sparrows in my area have discovered that they like lettuce and were eating in my "salad bar" everyday.

Gardenweb occasionally has trouble with logins, and is aware that this occurs. I have had it occur sporadically over the last couple of years. At one point, about 2 years ago, I might have to log in half a dozen times before it would take. The only thing that seemed to help was to login only from the GardenWeb home page rather than while I was in a specific forum. I have not had login problems for a while now, but I know others occasionally do. I don't think there is much you can do, other than to try logging in from the home page.

According to Tamara, my only option is to remove my cookies and restart and see if that fixes my problem. It's the "see if" that makes me pause. I also don't understand why my cookies would be the problem when others here are having the same auto log-out problem each time they leave GW and our problems seemingly began at the same time. I pointed out to Tamara that we are using different browsers and systems but she didn't address that in her response to me - at least it doesn't seem that she did. Instead she wrote, "Nearly all websites will set cookies when users login. You may not like them, but they do serve a purpose -- part of which is that you don't need to re-login each visit. Sometimes they get stuck, sometimes your browser does not reset them as necessary. While browsers are generic in nature, they become very personalized based on your use and what might work for one, may not work for another." Could it be that our different browsers became personalized at the same time? Blast those computer gremlins! I knew they were up to no good and now it seems that they've banded together to cause more havoc! ;-) Oh, she also said that the Vibrant Opt-out problems that occurred in the beginning have been fixed and I shouldn't worry about losing this option. I'd have more confidence in that if someone hadn't just posted that the opt-out feature stopped working for them and they're getting the mean greenies again. Has anyone tried to remove cookies and start again? Any luck?
