Network setup - didn't work - help

Hi All

I was attempting (it didn't work) to set up a network for file and printer sharing between my pc and laptop. I've had the wireless connection setup for some time now and it works perfectly but this home office network setup doesn't work. I followed the instructions given at the link below.

First I did all the steps on my pc and restarted it. Then I did all the steps on my laptop and restarted it. Under My Network Places on the PC, only 'My Web Sites on MSN' shows up (I don't use that) and on my laptop there is no 'My Network Places' on the Start Menu???? Note: I did find my Network Places through the control panel but there's nothing there that connects with the PC. Duh, what did I do wrong?

Somehow following the instructions given seemed too easy .....figures it didn't work. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks June

I have MS Windows XP Media Center Edition on the laptop and

MS Windows XP Home Edition on the PC.

Hi-speed cable from Rogers on PC connected to Linksys WRT54G router.
