Qick browser search add on/pop up?

Lately when I am on the web surfing, I get this pop up all the time. It is quick browser search. I have googled the fix but haven't had any luck figuring out how to remove it so far. Any help would be appreciated. I have windows xp Internet explorer 7. Norton Antivirus isn't picking it up nor is web root spy sweeper. I have all of the windows updates, at least the critical ones for sure. Can anyone help me fix this? Thanks, Terri

Please look in your add/remove programs list for anything funny you may find these or simular types if so remove them:

*Connect MFC Application
*FunWeb
*FunWebProducts
*MyWay.MyWebSearch
*MyWebSearch

You may want to run: (spybot search & destroy) & ccleaner, these can find these by Google--You may also want to run Superantispyware if these instructions fail sounds like you picked up some ad-ware

Here's the link for superantispyware download the free version. Please follow directions carefully, you will need to up-date definitions file on tool then run it. Let us know how it runs I can get more detailed directions if needed.

I have a popup blocker, I never see any popups on any other sites I go to, however here at gardenweb a lot of them get through. The popup companies are not the only ones to blame though. I think unautre is right, "Gardenweb's new owners are driving away visitors and killing the forums trying to make money off the ads." I know I don't come to the site as often as I used to. I just hate having to navigate around all the popups! This place has become more like a video game than a gardening website! And it is not a good video game. I sure hope the administration reads this. People don't want to have to deal with the volume and type of popups they now have on this site, and it is still getting worse. Last week I could not even get the jello ad off the page, every time I closed it, it popped back up. I had to close the page. The lakehouse movie is even worse and I'm tired of seeing a little blue pill wander across my page. What does any of this have to do with gardening anyway? Well, enough said, now I just have one question. New owners? What did happen to spike? Can anyone fill me in? Thanks, Pat

My DH just helped me out with this, although it's not a perfect fix. If you you have Firefox, there's an add on called Flashblock 1.5.5. You can download it from the Mozilla Firefox website. It will give you a button for your toolbar that makes the ad invisible, with an outline. The drawback is if you want to click on anything within this outline, it will activate the ad. But for right now, it is stopping the screen from jumping when the ad automatically collapses. Here is a link that might be useful: Flashblock

I havent used zone alarm is some time - so I cant look or experiment but; You might try adding a Â - nosplash to the end of the run command starting that program in the registry. Which works with some programs, zone alarms too, if I remember correctly.

Dedtired are you by any chance using a keyboard app like say SwiftKey instead of the native keyboard? If so change back to the native keyboard and try signing in. I have run into this problem repeatedly when using my Android device and SwiftKey keyboard or other keyboard apps. As soon as I switched back to the original native keyboard it signed in just fine. Remember that there are copycat programs that try to fool you into getting them because they have a name very similar to the real thing. It is Adblock plus not anything else or similar. It will have an icon that is a red stop sign with ABP in it. There's a version for just about all the major browsers just select the right one for the browser you use. There should not be any messing up your computer by simply adding Adblock plus to the browser. However if you accidentally got one of those other sound alike programs that installed on your computer you very well may have some problems because some are malware. If you had that happen go to control panel and all programs and remove it from there. The real thing is at adblockplus.org I always recommend making sure that you have the easylist filter added to the filter preferences in the adblock plus settings and in the settings area uncheck the option to allow some types of ads.

Thank you ZEP for the fast & great response. I downloaded the super anti spyware you sugested & I think it found & deleted my problem. It was a browser add on I think it was called new dot net. Only time will tell for sure. Thanks a million for your help! Terri

That is good news however these can be difficult to get rid of and may re-appear after a reboot, please check your add/remove programs list again and look for anything related to NEW NET, NEWDOT,ect or other related items.

Start>controlpanel>add/remove. I would also run spybot search&destroy and ccleaner if you have not done so.

You might also check to see if your firewall and/or other safety programs have been shut down without your knowledge. Are you using a 2 way firewall or the XP version?

So far the quick pop up hasn't returned. I would like to thank all of you for the help. I never did find it in the Start>controlpanel>add/remove area. I really do not know anything about firewalls; I know this is bad; I just never bothered to learn about it. Seems kind of complicated to me. I do use Norton, spy sweeper, ccleaner & now super anti spy ware. Thanks again, Terri
