Not sure ,maybe should be on graphics?

I wanted to open a couple files in the folders I had stored.

Clicked on them, figured QuickView would take over, and this window comes up"

Program not found(window)

Windows cannot find PICTURE EXE.

This program is needed for opening file of type 'DAT file'

location of PICTURE EXE.

Where do I find this? See that there are several folders that are perhaps not usable, because I changed the name of the files?

Appreciate any input from someone with thoughts.

If these are photos rename the file to .jpg or .png .png will cause windows photos & fax viewer to open them.

zep516-I wish I had had that advice long ago, seems I have lost all my pictures because I now, after renaming the file to jpg, get a window that says "couldn't display because a suitable graphics importer could not be found". I have picture viewer, and most times it opens what I have, perhaps the renaming thing is what goofed up here, and I should have done the jpg. thing right away?
Trying to grasp some things I should have worked harder on in the beginning, and appreciate your input very much.

M-A, yes, do keep us updated. That goes for everyone that are fighting these evil little white worms. Here's my update....Last fall I notiiced nematodes on a couple of my Gold Edgers that were planted at my campsite. Since I had 7 Gold Edgers, I dug all of them up. I tossed the 2 that showed signs. The 5 remaining plants I put in a plastic bag and put them in my car to take home and treat. Well, I forgot about them for over 2 weeks. After remembering them I figured that being in a black car kept outside in Aug for that long would be the the same as a heat tx so I just replanted them. Late last fall it looked like only 4 of them were going to survive, but this spring all 5 came up. So far all 5 are thriving with no signs of nems. Also, last fall in my garden at home I found nems on 5-6 plants. I did the heat tx and SO FAR they are OK. BTW, while doing the heat tx the plants just divided themselves so I ended up with quite a few plants to replant. I now have a large hosta hospital. A couple days ago I found nems on 4 of my Lancifolias that I have at the campsite. I pitched them. After reading the article that Janice posted the link to from an entomologist, I ordered what that article recommended, Zerotol. The smallest jug that I could order was 2.5 gal. I spoke to the manufacter and was told to use it at a rate of 1:300. 1/2 oz per 1 gal water every 5-7 days...if no results I can bump it up to 1 oz to 1 gal water, but not to exceed 1 1/4 oz. It's expensive but what the heck, they're my hostas. My plan is this...I don't think I'll ever do the heat tx again. (Too much work & mess) Any new plant with nems will be pitched. I will treat all my hostas with the Zerotol. I also plan to spray them with insecticidal soap. I guess there's no 100% cure except the heat tx, but at least I hope to control them the best way I can. BTW, about my heat treatments...my hotwater tank just happened to be set at 130 degrees so that saved me some time/work. I kept them in the water bath for AT LEAST 15 min, much longer than recommended (I figured I had nothing to lose). I was surpised to see that nearly ALL of them came up this spring! Hosta really are tuff. I just hope that they are nem free. So far no nems, but it's only July. As for the chemicals....Well, I will be careful.

You could have it assessed by an expert in your area as suggested. They will be able to tell you the health and quality of the trees, the presence or absence of important/typical species, and so on. It has been my experience that lack of diversity is often a result of too much disturbance by humans. Very probably your woodlands were once completely cut to the ground and now are in recovery as is the case with virtually all woodlands in the east and midwest. Conversely, natural disturbances are interrupted, as in the case of fire (as already stated). It may not be possible to replace these patterns (burning for example) but they can be simulated. The previous owner mowing the property for instance simulated burning, albeit in an inexact way. I knew people in Florida who simulated fire by first mowing their pine forest, collecting the clippings, burning them, and then distributing the ash over the woodland. Talk about dedication! Thirty three acres is a lot of ground, but once you know what's lacking, you could slowly replace the missing species. That depends on your interest and depth of your pocket book. Also, what are you trying to achieve? Beyond that, rejoice in your great fortune! Anyone lucky enough to possess thirty plus acres of forested land is fortunate indeed. And of course, if you can, we'd all love to see photos of it. PF

hi OB2B, so nice to meet you today? did you enjoy the tour? I had a chance to see a few of the houses this afternoon. It was a great day. steph2000, thanks so much! i think you are right re: the semi-flush. right now I am going to take a breather until the hood is ready. I pushed really hard to get this done for the tour today -- there were so many people here this week. will be nice to take a little break. deedles, I purchased the wolf 20" riser with shelf for behind the range. it isn't up yet. the guys were having trouble sliding the range out. the riser has to attach to the back of the range (i would have assumed it could just attach to the wall) and so the range has to slide out. The marble countertops are very tight to the range with really no gap at all so it was difficult for them and they were rushing so much to get so many things done that I suggested we address it later when they can slow down a little (I was a little afraid of them damaging the doors on my range ... they were pullling on them trying to slide it out and that was definitely not okay with me!).

uhh my first thought was hey they are girl scouts why are they not making their own uniforms??!!! i KNOW i have seen GS fabric at Joanns. we did sewing in brownies & girl scouts. they should not under any circumstances get their uniforms from china! hold fundraisers, have local sewers make them, etc...find an answer that does not involve sending business to china, there are enough cheap people buying their crap. the problem is not NAFTA, the problem is the cheap consumer providing the market. just wait to hear all the whining when the chinese merchandise goes up alot in price from the currency fix LOL. ~ liz

Just be sure you put the . B4 the extensions.
.jpg and not jpg.

I think there is some confusion going on here. DAT files are not graphic files or pictures.

What is all this talk about renaming the files? Unless Shaddy101 initially had JPEGS or BITMAPS and renamed them to .DAT, for what reason I have no idea, why would you suggest changing the extension?

DAT files contain data that is utilized by many different types of programs. If you change the .DAT extension to anything else, the program that NEEDS this data will not have it and you'll have a corrupt program.

Shaddy101, what folder is the .DAT file in? Don't mess around with the extensions (.jpg, .bmp, etc.) unless you are sure about what you are doing.

Yeah there is some confusion "she renamed the files", when she said Quick view usually opened them I figured they were originally, jpg files, you can always rename them back to .dat, but she does not have a program to open .dat files or at least I don't think so or they would open, rename them to .doc and see if word opens them, your right they are data files.

Might be a graphics program picture archive thing. That dat file may actually contain a slug encoded pics.

I'd probaby search the hard drive for Picture.exe or as she spelled it out PICTURE EXE (missing the extension .dot?)

Back to the drawing board fellas, the pics that I want to open are emails, that I moved from OE to documents.
I wawsn't sure how to go about that, so I just pulled them from OE to the desktop, and moved them from there. Seems in the process, they lost their viability, and am wondering if there would have been some other way, in the beginning, to have done this, and of course, renaming them after getting them into the documents/my pictures files was necessary due to content.
