Sub Zero deal too good to pass up?

Hello.

In our new home, we were planning on getting two SZ 36" all fridge/freezer units (BI-36). I was quoted about $11,000 for the pair which would be panel ready.

There is a listing on Ebay for two SZ 736 TCI (36" fridge on top with 2 freezer drawers below) for $8,000 for the pair. The pair would normally retail for over $12,000. The Ebay listing is for a new, in box, never used 2008 model with full warranty and shipping insurance. The seller has responded to my emails promptly and he has a 100% feedback rating. We would prefer these over the new BI since they are fully integrated and have the freezer drawers which we really like.

What am I missing here? Is this too good to be true? How can he sell a brand new unit at this price with SZ abiding to the UMRP philosophy? The seller goes by bizaro2002.

For SubZero Fridges selling at SubPar prices. all I can say is that I saw a (suspicious) on a local community ad site, and I responded by web form without giving my name (but I did give one of my email addresses), and I got no response. I filled out the web form again and again for days on end.

Then, I sent an email to the web site admin to tell them this was probably an ad from someone looking to build an email list of homeowners with budget.

Thanks. Any specific concerns about buying online? COuld the units be damaged? What recourse would I have? Just don't want to get ripped off.

Yes, I'm with Ladychroe, chances are those bulbs that were so inexpensive are results of forcing and they don't want to hold them over. If they are true bulbs and have been used, chances are they wont do a thing in your garden. And this is so true....you only get what you pay for....so anytime you run across the deal that cant be believed.......don't believe it...save your 50Â¢ and put it toward good bulbs that will make you wish you had bought more. Anytime a store wishes to put bulbs or things on sale like this, why not ask them to comment on what they are about. Are these bulbs guaranteed to grow--to bloom. These are spring flowering bulbs and as such, if planted at this time, will probably end up squirrel fodder. Before next fall when they should be planted, according to the weather that promotes roots, bulbs in the ground now without roots will rot in no time. As the squirrels and others find them, they can also ring the dinner bell for other plants and bulbs.

schoolhouse.... I am not an expert at propagating, but when I did it, I just took tip cuttings and stuck them in one of those under the bed plastic storage boxes that had a clear top and an opague body. I just mixed a little potting soil with mostly sand and wet it a little and stuck them in there with the cover on and left them in an area where there was a lot of light but no direct sunlight. I just kept checking to make sure they were stil moist and never had to do anything else. I'm sorry but it was awhile ago that I did it, so I don't remember what time of year I did it. Certainly was easy enough and didn't cost anything to speak of to experiment. I may have bought a jar of rooting hormone and stuck them in there first. But...I know I have done cuttings without it too and had fairly good success, so I don't think that is a must but does seem to give more dependable rootings. If you are seriously going to try it, I would post separately and ask for some instructions from someone with a lot of experience. [g] pm2

Lafacia, this may help: 20 years ago we put one of the smallest size SZs in when we bought our house. Ten years later, we reno'd the kitchen and replaced it with another slightly larger SZ. The old one went into storage in the garage, where it sat with the spiders for another ten years. A year ago, we pulled it out of the garage, cleaned off the spiderwebs, and set it up on the porch to handle overflow for a party. It works just fine - to the point that I so loved having the extra space, we've just kept it on. Had the SZ maintenance guy come out and check it out -- got a clean bill of health, didn't have to do a thing for it other than clean off the condensers. I'm now planning a new house, and plan to put a SZ in that one too. I think you'd have to pry my SZ out of my cold dead hands at this point . The only thing I can tell you that the new ones do better on is energy efficiency. Would I buy a used one? Yep, I probably would. HTH....

Don't know what configurations Liebherr is currently offering in those sizes, but I can vouch that mine is hands-down the best fridge I've ever had, easily on par with the subzero (at least the one I had 15 yrs ago). Liebherr's likely got the same advantages as the SZ in terms of interior moisture management & dual compressors, so perhaps you can find what you need in their current line if the SZ designs aren't doing it for you? I find it roomier in the smaller sizes than the designs of the current US-branded fridges, which seem annoyingly clunky with huge molded interiors that take up all the usable space.

Hi! Does seller accept payments through Paypal? I believe ebay offers some protection if it goes through Paypal or the ebay credit card. My suggestion is to check ebay and Paypal for their payment protection policies. Good luck!

What you're missing is that they didn't stay at 8 grand for long. Were over 9 last time I checked and no have a BIN.

Also, this is not an authorized retailer and the units are not new. At least one was installed in a customers home. SubZero and other UMRP manuf. don't really care what their product sell for on the secondary market. They do car if one of their reg dealers is selling a brand new in the box with warranty fridge for 1-2 grand less than normal. A previously sold unit even if it's in a box and under warranty is not the same a new.

i think you are talking about a different listing. the one i am refering to is the right and left hinged 736tci. they are listed separately and still at $4,000. i have emailed the seller as well as people who have bought from him. he assures me they are brand new in the box with no damage. the listings are also paypal insured. i am thinking about going for it.
