Again suggests you have had this issue before. Would be nice if you found that thread and linked to it so any helper can see what has been suggested in the past. I assume you have gone over that thread again and tried the various fixes that may have been suggested?

What does 'pointer freezing' mean? Does the computer simply freeze and you need to reboot or will it free itself in a few seconds wait time? Does this happen at random or when you attempt some specific task?

owbist- I looked for my post from the past but could not find it.
Winxp. Pointer is freezing about every 30 seconds for about 20 seconds. Doing it in email, and all other things I do. (surf). I was told to use AdAware, ccleaner (I think).
I have a question about the ccleaner- it says it will delete all files- so will my songs, pictures be deleted? How to avoid this?

Ccleaner - No it will not delete anything on your hard drive other than the stuff listed when you run the program. This is an excellent free program and as long as you do not alter any settings you will do just fine running the cleaner.

The other problem. Guess we'll need to start afresh as you cannot find the previous thread. You have songs on there, is it possible you have too much data on the hard drive?

Click Start click My computer and it will show you the size of the hard drive and the amount of free space. There should be 20% free space so the swap file can work efficiently.

You do update AdAware before running it of course?

What make and model is the mouse? How old and have you ever updated the drivers for it?

Hmm. I searched the forum using your screen name. You have 3 pages of posts but none with subject pointer freezes.

OK....maybe I didn't ask before... I probably have 20 songs, 20 pictures.
I did start/my computer- says 50.1GB free space, 55.8 total space.
No- I have forgotten to update AdAware in awhile- will do it.
I have no mouse- laptop.
What else?
I do AdAware everytime I start (will update), and did Defraggler a couple weeks ago.

adaware is really not one of the best programs to use these days it once was but now many others top it, the best to use is malwarebytes free and also superantispyware free.

Now I am a little scared/confused. As I said, I do AdAware everytime I start. I clicked Start/Control/Add-remove programs.. and where AdAware is, it said 'last used 6/25/09!! When I do the AdAware each day- it then has me repair, then shows 'successful'...does that not register in the control panel??

OK now on the Scared/confused part, I can understand that. Just stay calm and read each response here one line at a time. Do not look at any post and be overwhelmed by the amount of instructions. Any time you want to walk away for a rest be sure to hit the Cancel button and not the Enter or OK

Do as suggested and get Malwarebytes, install, update and run a FULL scan not the quick scan.

Lots of free space on your computer, I forgot, your computer is not very old.

What anti virus did you install?
Is it up to date and is it running?
In Vista click Start, click Control panel, Click Security. Somewhere on that window is a link to see all your security settings.

Do you have Windows Defender? This comes pre-installed with Vista and is fully automatic. You could run that before installing Malwarebytes if you want.

One previous me again...pointer freezes. That OP reads like a battery problem then the discussion continues for several follow-ups.

This was over a year ago (link posted by albert_135), and you are still having the same troubles? Have you been using this laptop during the past year? I can certainly understand your frustration, but we need to know what has been happening during the past 12-13 months with this machine.

Listen to Owbist, who is patient, and to Ravencajun, who is very knowledgeable. They will get you through this. Just take things one step at a time. Make sure all your protection is up to date (anti-virus, anti-spyware (malware), and firewall). You do have a responsibility to keep these things up to date and run scans regularly because that's just the way it is with pc's.

I have AVG
This computer is 4 years old. It crashed in February and the techs at the company (TCT West) re loaded the computer.
I tried the first two Malware that raven gave, but there was not a place to download anything- but the third- Super Antispyware free edition downloaded and I ran a full scan. My eyes weren't working after that so I shut off the computer. Can AVG and Super Antispyware be used together or do they cause problems if both are on the computer? If I do not answer tonite it is because eyes are not working again..

Yes AVG and Super Antispyware can be used together with no problems. AVG is anti virus and runs automatically. Superantispyware needs to be manual updated and set to run. Your AVG is set to run in the early hours of the morning so if you shut down each night you might want to either alter the time for a scan or set it to run when you leave the computer for a while. Just double click the AVG icon the look on the left side to start the scan

Ha ha, I know what you mean about the old eyes getting tired. Being older is alright but it does carry a load of baggage along with it. You answer just when ever you feel fit and ready.

When I go to the first line you gave, it takes me to a page that says 'Malwarebytes', with 'Home, About Us, Products, Contact Us on the top line. Then on the left is 'Destroying malw...(there isn't any more), and 'Testimonials'. Further down the page is a red 'cnet-Editors Choice Apr 2009'. Further down from that is 'Latest News'.
There isn't any blue box to download.
At the very bottom of the page is 'Malware NET', Adware.MyWebSearch 24.33%, Trojan Agent percent of total 6.15%, Security Hack Percent of total 5.59%
Right now I have a split screen so I can tell you exactly what comes up when I click on the site.
AVG has made my computer so slow- I have 448MB.
I have read your instructions for when you have trouble downloading Malware- I went to: tools/internet options/security/trustedsites/sites and added www.malwarebytes.org/add. After I did that everytime I tried to go to a site a message popped up and said 'www.cnet' wants to be downloaded through this site- do you want to allow this?'. If I click 'yes' it just keeps popping up but nothing happens.
