NSCHLOSS - I installed (18 months ago) similar to the pictures above, EXCEPT I went one step further. Where she has the blank panel above the two drawers, I had my cabinet maker do a third drawer there. It was tight, and we weren't sure if it would end up being a fake drawer or a working drawer until we did the actual install. But, I really wanted a utensil drawer there if at all possible. And I got one... when you pull the drawer open, the actual drawer behind it is only 2" or so deep, the front makes it look like the normal 6-7" deep. Just deep enough to put non-combustible turners, tongs, large spoons, etc. for cooking. I don't keep rubber scrapers or even wooden spoons in there just to be safe. So, hows this been working in reality? I would defintely still do it for the handiness of having the utensils there. Every once in a great while, the jumbled utensils catch briefly beneath - but a quick jiggle and that addresses that. And sometimes, when I have three burners or more going, I will open up this drawer to aid in ventilation - not that it needs it necessarily - but, just to be cautious. It never seems to get very hot beneath the cooktop. Other than that, it's perfect. I'd definitely do it again... Although, I will caution - should you have a problem with the cooktop within the warranty period, I suppose they could argue that you have an improper install and deny any warranty claim....I decided to take that risk. My previous home had thermofoil and I never had any problems with it. But, there are many grades of thermofoil and I've heard of the peeling issues with the economy lines. Are they going to replace the drawer fronts or just repair the foil? I don't know how many drawers and doors are involved but before I'd give them the $650 I'd call a local cabinet maker and have them give you an estimate for wood doors and drawer fronts to match the frames of the cabinet. Cabinet makers I've dealt with in the past have access to the termofoil products, so ask them to also estimate the cost of doors and drawer fronts with thermofoil (from a reputable brand). Using a cabinet maker doesn't mean custom. Your cabinets are probably standard sizes so he could just order and install what you're needing. I wouldn't consider replacing the cabinets as an option if the cabinet frames are in good condition. It's going to cost much more to try to replace the frame itself and most likely the granite and backsplash will be damaged. I just read on your xpost where the contractor applied thermofoil on exposed edges and only installed doors and drawer fronts. Just how many doors/drawers do you have? I found where Prestige carries your cabinet fronts (they're located in Fla.) and the warranty is 3 years. You may want to call them for more info regarding the problems you're seeing. I'm sorry you are having issues. At this point, if there was a warranty on your kitchen, it would be through the cabinet manufacturer, NOT the provider of labor for the install. Industry standard is one year of labor warranty, and then whatever product warranty is in place should take care of any future issues. Do you have a brand name for the cabinets? Any paperwork at all? Because $3500 is a pretty low amount for cabinets for any kitchen, and I suspect the contract got them from a less than reputable source, like some of the famous Chinese import cabinet places.

Ranton: The paintcolor is BM Serenety. It's a very calming (like its namesake) grey/blue. Missy Moo: The flatware is Crate & Barrel Tuscany. I LOVE it. Nice substantial weight and looks shiny and new out of the dishwasher every time! And my little kitchen helpers are Matthew, my 5-year old (one of my 3 kiddos) and Bruin, our rescue pup.
