We have the all freezer and all fridge combo and it looks very nice. I did have problems with noise, partly because I installed them in an enclosure on a hard tile surface and I opened up the kitchen quite a bit in the remodel. I added some sound insulation around the top and sides and that helped. They aren't overly loud but definitely not as quiet as, say, an LG. Only problem I've had is that I have to set the fridge temp control to the coldest setting to maintain proper temp. Serviceman came out and said that was normal (!) As soon as it's out of warranty I'm going to go in and modify the thermistor that controls temperature to get a little more range out of it. It does keep food cold however and I haven't had any problem with ice-up of milk or other liquids.

hey 3waller, i was having a tough time deciding on refrigeration myself and recently made a decision which I think will work for me. Originally I was considering the 27" all fridge and 27" all freezer by subzero. These two units would have the cabinet panels on them and be divided in the center by a 27" pantry. I was concerned that the 27" fridge was too small for my family of 5 so I began searching other options. My wife and I came across the Miele 30" all refrigerator in a showroom and fell in love with it. It is a stunning piece inside and out. I have had Sub zero in the past and the miele just seems better built, better to look at a better usable space inside, of course all my opinion. However, after looking further into it, the Miele only offers a 18" freezer (too small), and the next size is a 30" freezer (too large for us) So I was disappointed. After researching a bit more I decide to get the 30" fridge by Miele and a 24" freezer by Thermadore. These units will both be covered on front so you would not be able to see a difference and because of my layout with the pantry in the center this option is possible. After calling the salesman he informed me that people do this combination quite often because Miele lacks the 24" all freezer. So in the end I wind up with the sizes I want and actually save a decent amount of money on the freezer end. From what I understand Thermadore is a solid product but may have lacked in the past with their service, I was informed that they have been correcting this issue and it is something I was willing to risk by purchasing their product. I wrote in this forum seven years ago about the Frigidaire all-freezer and all-refrigerator combo. We installed them as past of a major condo remodel - and have been TOTALLY happy with our choice. They are cabinet depth with zero clearance - a big deal for us. We find the refrigerator space "adequate," though a hidden benefit of the less-deep shelves is that we have no biology experiments molding away undiscovered in the back! The freezer space is awesome! Not to mention the jaw-dropping looks we get when visitors first enter our kitchen! Again, it's seven years later, and we have not had one single issue with the pair. If we build a new house, the kitchen will be planned around this same Frigidaire combo. Not sure the Electrolux-branded pair are worth the extra $$$, as they also make the Frigidaire units

It is the same fridge /freezer combo sold by Sears Kenmore. You can try buying the Electrolux or the Kenmore Elite and just get a good warranty. Sure, they are a bit noisier than the best and they often have a bit mor3e variable temperature. Don't get an exterior water and ice maker. Get a freezer that unloads ice into an open container so you can quickly slide your glass into it and get your ice. It is much faster than an exterior unit anyway and that is the part of freezers that breaks most often--exterior water and exterior ice. While I went more upscale--I bought a Thermador Freedom 30" fridge and a Freedom 24" freezer, I didn't add the exterior ice and water dispenser. Not only does it look better without it, I can get ice for me or 8 people 10 times quicker than any refrigerator with an exterior ice dispenser. The Thermador freezer has a great automatic ice maker that dumps into a huge open tray. A trick I used was using my contractors name and bought it under his corporate name, getting a sizable discount--about 20%--maybe a tad more. If you want to buy a separate pro looking fridge and freezer it will cost. That is just a plain fact. Putting together a kutchen is deciding on your busdget and spending more on what is most important to you and compromising on things that are less imprtant. There are a lot of good stainless sinks made by Lansen, Tricor, and Siena (my fave being Lansen) that can save you a lot. There are plenty of cheaper dishwashers that perform about as well as the most expensive, except they are often considerably louder. CR will show you fairly inexpensive models that are $1,000 (or more) cheaper than the pro-looking brands--and you may still find some stainless brands in the cheaper area that perform quite well. You can save a lot on faucets if you aren't married to a Grohe or other high end faucets. Get well made--not painted, cabinets from less expensive companies. Many are still well made. Kraftmaid, Wellborn, and some others make nicely stained cabs. Greg
