Comments (12)Some of these are way too big but there might be something in the photos that you could use such as a door style, flooring, mirror to make up your own composition for your small bath. Comments (0)I want to remodel 2 outdated 1980’s style bathrooms in my 1450 sq. Ft. Ranch house. They are both small (8x8 )and the tax value of my house is about $250,000. I want to replace the fiberglass alcove shower in the master with a curbless walk-in shower. I’ve gotten 2 estimates so far from general contractors who are Certified Aging in Place Specialists (CAPS certified). They are running in the $25000 range (per bathroom). I want to be sure I get good quality on the shower installation as I am worried about leaking. But other than making sure grab bars are installed along with comfort height height toilet and vanity and slip resistant flooring is it worth it to use someone with CAPS certification? Thanks!...See MoreUpdate on bathroom remodel - contractor has apendicitis
Comments (50)I do think the Allen wrench is metric, since the diverter was made in Germany, and I will look into getting some metric Allen wrenches, if we do not have any at our house in Los Angeles. I will take what we have here to see if any will work, but it would have been convenient if the contractor had left the Allen wrench that came with the fixture. I do have the instructions, such as they are, and they have essentially no text with them - only illustrations, and so it is better to go to Youtube for information on the adjustment. I'm sure it is simple and something that I can do myself, once I have the correct wrench. The contractor called me today and said that the glass doors in the master bathroom are already installed, but he thinks there is an issue with the hinge at the bottom because it makes noise and the door is more difficult to open inward than outward. The glass company installed the doors - the contractor never intended to do this himself, and while he sounded a bit weak on the phone, he said he was feeling well enough to oversee what is being done. Unfortunately, the glass door installers damaged a tile in the hall bathroom, and so now that has to be replaced, which will happen tomorrow. The glass company will pay for this to be done of course, but the door should be reinstalled this week. Anyway, I will go on Friday to see what is being done regardless. We have lots of extra tiles, and so that is not an issue, but the contractor told me that the bottom hinge on the second glass door also appeared to have an issue. I let him know that I would not accept hinges that are not proper, as I do not want to have issues later on. I also told him that I am in no hurry to get this completed, but he is because I will not give him his final payment until the work is completed to my satisfaction. There is no need now to get a shower curtain....See MoreBathroom dust and how feasible is a DIY bathroom remodel for me?
Comments (20)I got the cabinets through Home Depot (20% off) they are not higher end but they have held up extremely well and we’ve been happy with them. I don’t remember the brand, but the color is cognac on maple. They’re standard kitchen cabinets. We got 2 regular drawer banks, 1 extra wide drawer bank, 2 sink cabinets and the closet you can see in the picture for about 1800 w/the discount. We bumped the shower wall 6 inches into the bedroom to make the shower bigger, pulled the cabinets out from the wall a couple of inches to provide more counter top. And curved the edge the counter for interest. Just for fun, this is what we had to start with. The tub was rusted and there were two doors, 1 from the hall & 1 from the master bedroom, we closed up the hall door. I think we got our moneys worth. LOL As for the labor, I found my Contractor through a plumber I had hired to put in a kitchen faucet. I asked if he had someone good he could refer and he referred Matt to me. Matt had his own company but just him and his guys. All of his work was by word of mouth, he didn’t advertise or push for business, he didn’t need to. I think I got fair pricing from him because he didn’t have the overhead a lot of the larger companies might have. He wasn’t the least expensive and he wasn’t the most expensive. Finding someone who was willing to work on our schedule and not having to have it done ASAP is what really helped me to be able to keep our costs at a minium for both labor and materials....See MoreEngineerChic
