Okay, how about glass tile on ONE bathroom wall

Yes, it's the same powder room. This little room is 50" x 50". I guess I won't do the blue tile in the other thread.

Would it look weird with just glass tile on the back wall. It's this 1 x 2, but I'd install it vertically. And on the floor I'd use a similar tile in white/grey marble. I supposed I'd have to paint the other 3 walls a blending color.

I'm so bad at decorating. Right now the walls in this bath are painted crayon blue. :)

I am not a designer by any means, but what helped me narrow in on what to use (and not use) was to decide on what "theme" or general look I had in mind, then look at photos/pics of bathrooms in that "theme", then from there started to zero in on the possibilities. Otherwise I would still be trying to decide. I came up with my own look, but it really helped to have a goal. I would use pattern or color or tile type, then created my own mix.

In terms of one wall or partial walls, the rule is there are no rules. You can create anything you desire. My biggest challenge was finding photos to inspire me!

In my active master bath reno, 2 walls will be to the ceiling, and 2 will be partial, and that was specifically what I wanted to create. I was inspired by the idea of beautiful rooms with an exposed brick wall- kind of like "one tiled wall".

I did just one wall in glass tile, the side wall where the sinks are, so of course I think it would look gorgeous:) But seriously, I think that tile would look really nice in a bathroom and the back wall makes a lot of sense since it's directly in front of you when you enter the room.

Having a glass ceiling as opposed to the fully enclosed shower shown (an insulated ceiling) is going to pose some challenges: the surface of the glass is going to act as a condenser and rain cold water. Maybe not a lot, and not noticeable with the shower running but if you stay inside to dry off you are going to get dripped with cool water. The other aspect is going to be maintenance of both the interior surface (which will dry with lots of waterspots unless you squeegee cold water down on yourself) and the outer surface which is going to be a dust collector that you are have to get on a ladder and reach over to clean. Its an interesting idea, but for me personally, the potential negatives would outweigh the potential pluses.

While you'll see answers anywhere from 36" to 72", the norm is usually between 42" and 52", depending on where your vanity, mirror (or hutch), and electrical switches and outlets fall. You want to make sure that especially the electrical face plates fall either all on, or all off the FIELD tile (It can't have any raised tiles like chair rail or raised pencil liners falling underneath the plates, either).

@Shanon Rosick - thanks for your post.. if you check my post from 9 hours ago we are going with the deco pattern stratford tile on the shower walls and a matte white mosaic on the entire bathroom floor.. walls are being painted crushed ice which is a hint of grey that picks up the tile color.. the tile doesn't look like vinyl in reality.. it is actually very pretty - no bench / no niche - i do not like either.. getting a small cedar bench in the bathroom that we can pull under the rainhead if we want and tempered curved glass shelves in corner..

Because it looks bad and honestly I don’t like the mix of the huge format marble look and the wood tiles mixed in a small space. Those huge format tiles needa tile setter that has worked with them a lot they are a huge issue to lay properly and you better insist on seeing their work in real life before beginning .Also those huge tiles would not IMO would not work in a bathroom they are meant to be used in large spaces.. To answer your question your master bath and bedroom should be cohesive in design and that can be quite different from the rest of the house too.

CLG- head over the the home decorating forum and ask them. There are some people who are seriously awesome at aesthetic decisions. They will want to see pics of the tile you are considering.
