After this experience, I suggest that you back up useful programs you download onto storage separate from your hard drive so you can have a record and an easy install of the versions you were using.

Yes, Belarc was the one, and PDF XCHANGE the other. Tried Foxit once, but it removed Google as my search engine and put in all these add-ons I never wanted.

I now have a thumb-drive with MWB, SuperAntiSW, Spywareblaster, Secunia, Scotty the Pup, Avast, Open Office, CCleaner, Auslogic Defrag and Mozilla Firefox.

Have also booked a permanent bed in a local rest-home for future calamaties...

Well, it sounds like you're set...and probably are now in better shape than a lot of folks!

one of the main reasons I use firefox is because of xmarks add on which backs up all the bookmarks to an online access and if your system goes kaput you can always just access your xmarks online and when you have firefox back up just get all your bookmarks right back using xmarks.

Plus since I am just freaky about it I also back up all my bookmarks to about 4 other locations too LOL

you might want to think about an imaging program to just image that hard drive!
8 free software to image/backup/ghost your computer (free alternatives to Acronis True Image, Norton Ghost, etc.).

R-C...how do I find that xmarks add on? It doesn't require me using a disc, does it?

When this computer finally dies (which shouldn't be too long at this rate!), I'm exchanging it for an abacus, selling my chainsaw for an axe and swapping my car for a horse and cart. Then I want to find a nice Amish lady and settle down peacefully...

Question please. Do the Update Notifier and the File Hippo mentioned above do the same thing as Secunia, or are they different? I have Secunia, so I'm wondering if I need either of these?
