After some great suggestions found on this board I am in the process of making a final decision regarding a 30" gas range. I was originally going to go with a Miele single oven and electric or induction cooktop but I like the professional look of the gas ranges too much. With that being said I was looking at either a 30" Wolf or Viking range. Please share any experiences you have with either one of these ranges or any other ranges you think I should be considering. For the owners of either of the above ranges, I've read alot of things on this board and was wondering if I would have a problem with either one of these.

Hi, I have the Viking 30" all gas open burner range and there's no gap between the burner surface and the back guard. I think you probably have the wrong back guard. BTW, I know there have been posts about problems with Viking. We've had our 30" for 8 years and love it. So much that we've just ordered a new Viking 36" open burner for our remodel. We're selling our current range to a friend. Hope you love yours, too.

I recently purchased a Wolf AG 48" (4 burners, charbroiler, griddle)...it was installed at the end of July and I finally turned on the burners this weekend...and I am having problems...I turn on one burner on high and another (or all) igniters go off, constantly clicking...if I turn the burner on low, they stop. This will happen with any of the burners, including the charbroiler and at times, all burners will work fine and will ignite properly. Called Wolf and they directed me to a service repair company in my area (Toronto, ON, Canada)...called for an appt., next week is the earliest. Hopefully they can solve the problem. I was quite disappointed that I am having a problem with this range. We just completed building our house and I hoped and prayed (after so much stress, disappointment and delays with the building of the house) that the appliances would not cause me problems...if anything, I was worried about the GE Monogram side by side...but no...it had to be the range...I hope the issue can be fixed...for such an expensive product, I would expect perfection. Will let you know what happens.

I researched several ranges extensively, and recently bought & installed a new Wolf AG range. I almost bought a Viking since Viking has supposedly addressed all of the problems they've had for years, but the salesman asked that I buy an extended warranty on the Viking while he said I wouldn't really need one for the Wolf. I also called several major appliance repair stores in my state that are factory trained. I'm not sure if they got more calls for Viking repairs because of the ubiquity of the Viking, or whether the Wolf is less repair-prone. The repair guys said that the Wolf is made from better quality stainless steel, double-walled unlike the Viking, and more solidly made from higher quality components than Viking. Like the difference between a GM car and a BMW. BTW, if you're thinking of selling your house soon, every salesman at every store said to get the Viking because that's what high-end buyers want. I'm staying put, and simply put: I love the Wolf!!! I'm a serious cook, so I've used everything that this stove has to offer from convection fan baking, high BTU wok cooking, to the lowest simmer. The Wolf is a tremendous workhorse and delivers on every promise. BTW, my daughter was bummed when she returned to university and had to use her "crummy and slow" range in the house she rents with other students. That only heats to 10,000 BTUs and identical recipes turned out not as well on her range. While the Viking was definitely eye candy and appeared easier to clean, I have not regretted buying the Wolf for one moment. It's been a snap to keep clean. And I've grown to love the signature red knobs.
