36' range and wall oven or 48' range and advantium

I'm very confused now over appiances for my new kitchen! I need some advise please. I was set on the Monogram product now I am back to drawing board - still like product but decided to look further. In doing so, I'm now overwhelmed with choices...Do I go w/48" range and an Advantium which will serve as my mirco/add'l oven. Or, go with a 36" range which has bigger oven that I like and a wall oven such as a Miele/monogram/or thermador. I would then get a small micro. Ranges I am considering are Wolf, Monogram and Bluestar - Probably go w/DF for Wolf. Help Please!

I suggest to a lot of customers that for the best blend of cooking situations to do a 36" AG range and a single wall oven/micro

This pretty much gives you excellent cooking under all circumstances.

A 48" oven will save you monetarily but to have such a limited size secondary oven can be tough.

^Agree 100%. 36" + 30 wall/micro combo. 2nd oven on a 48" is limiting. BTW, why not consider the KA KEM308 instead of the Miele 30 and the Advantium?

We entertain a lot and cook every night. When we remodeled we replaced the 30" cooktop and double wall oven with a 30" dual fuel range and 30" 240V Advantium wall oven. You will have to learn sequencing with the Advatium for multiple dishes, especially if you are going to use the microwave. The oven needs to cool down some before using the MW. We got a great deal on a GE Monogram Pro DF range and all of them are working perfectly.

I can answer the BS oven door question. My 36" BS RCS was installed two days ago (haven't used it yet, hopefully this weekend). During the burn off of the oven (high temp is 450 F for an hour) I checked how hot the oven door got, as that has been a big issue noted on these boards. On my range, the SS part of the oven door did not get hot, just a bit warm. The glass on the oven door got hotter but not that hot. What did get quite hot were the sides/edges of the oven door. I could touch the side but not for long. Definitely quite hot. Not instant burn/scald though. There are vents (or look like vents) right there so it makes sense that those areas heat up a lot. Your kids would have to press their hands up against the 2" side of the door for several seconds for it to affect them negatively. More likely a kid running around will touch the front of the door and that is not a problem, on my range at least.

A little late to the party, but here's another vote for 48" range if your kitchen can handle it and your lifestyle could use it. You don't need to host lavish parties to use 48" of cooktop and two ovens. Cooking is a serious hobby of mine and I've needed as little as 3 burners at a time to feed 30+, and I've used 6ish simultaneously to feed two. More often than me using all these burners for fancy meals is the two scenarios I don't see mentioned as often on this forum: 1. 48" of cooktop makes it more comfortable for two people to cook at once. 2. You don't need to use 8 burners to make good use of 48" of real estate. I have stock pots that will crowd out 3 burners. I use mine primarily for whole lobster, and large batches of pasta and potatoes, the possibilities are endless. I have several woks that will crowd out 3 burners each. I can make two different stir fries at once with a few side dishes and take up all 8 burners worth of space. I think at the the end of the day, if you aren't sure you need 48" of burner space you probably don't. As many very insightful people mentioned above it depends on your situation.

Many people here have posted that they love the 48" range and that the smaller oven is all they need for so many things that it's nice not to have to heat the larger oven. The setup really appeals to me, but the range ovens are too low for me to use. I went with a cooktop plus wall ovens.

Think about what you cook and bake most often and then those things that are occassional -- like the Thanksgiving turkey and the Christmas cookies. Make sure your choice handle the things you do most with the greatest ease and the most comfort of use, then look to see if it will also hanlde those occassional things without making you crazy. It won't be the same answer for everyone.

We went with the 48" Electrolux range with a Monogram 240V Advantium and a monogram Warming Drawer.

Our house is still under renovation, so I can't give a first-hand account, other than to say I'm excited!

Our reasoning for our choices are as follows:

We don't use the oven that much... neither of us bake, and we mostly use it to roast veggies, make a turkey at Thanksgiving, roast an occasional chicken, make lasagna, etc. For our needs, one oven is basically all we really need, so a range / wall unit was overkill (we are replacing a range and single wall oven... very old and outdated).

The selling point of the 48" Electrolux was that it had 6 burners. Yeah, I know 36" ranges do too, but man, the 48" gives you some real estate to work with. That is why we preferred it to the 8-burner 48" or combo ranges we looked at. We use some large Le Creuset dutch ovens, and some big "everyday" pans, so the extra 12" of space will be a great luxury. We use a Big Green Egg and / or a Weber gas grill for our meats, so an indoor grill was unneeded. A griddle always seems messy to me... I know some love them.

The small oven in the 48" ranges is perfect for our needs. Big enough for a lasagna / pie / casserole. The large oven on the 48" is perfect for a turkey or full-sized roasting pans, etc.

The Advantium 240 gives us the great speed-cook option, along with a really snazzy microwave. We didn't really need the convection feature of the 120V... both ovens in the range convect.

That leaves the warming drawer. If we ever decide to bake, it has a proofing feature. It will also serve the normal WD functions. I didn't really think we needed one, but our in-laws have one and we use it all the time, so I'm sold.

All in all, I feel like we've covered our bases. We have lots of ways to cook and keep foods warm, we didn't spend a fortune (shopped around a lot!)

Oh... one more thing... the 48" ranges look really cool. I know that is a silly reason to get one, but they DO look neat in a kitchen.
