bathroom vent fans

I need 4 bathroom vent fans, one with a light. From previous posts I gather the Panasonic Whisper units are the ones that have positive ratings. The size of my bathrooms require units with 80CFM and 4 inch duct. I'm wondering if those of you who have purchased these fans could suggest model numbers of what you've purchased. Also, those that have a light and fan unit, can the unit be wired so the fan and light have their own switch? Thanks very much.

Yes, you can wire them separately.

I advise putting the fan on a timer and the light on a different switch.
The timer I used was Leviton 611-6230M that has presets for 5, 10, 15, and 30 seconds.
We use the short times to clear out bad smells and the 30 minutes during/after a shower.
You can get other models with different preset times.
Sorry, I don't recall which ventilation fan models we bought, but I am very happy with them.

I'd rethink the Panasonic, I've read several posts in recent weeks where people weren't real thrilled with them. If you do a search for Panasonic Fans the threads may still be around. (After the last lost of data though maybe not)

I have whisper warm and we installed a timer switch for the fan portion so we dont have to remember to turn the fan off when we are leaving the bathroom. Works great. I was told it cant go inside the shower though so ours is right outside where you step out and the heater is great. I too bought one bigger than the space called for and have no regrets. I read that some complained that the heater didnt warm up enough and that made me get the larger size. The heater is great! Remember though that it takes a whole circuit breaker of its own-20 amp if I recall correctly so make sure you have enough space on your electric box.

Mav, I know...there is that search box up by the top with a red button that is worthless for searching for posts. It is the same with galleries. The "galleries" heading up there takes you to some really useless place, but if you look at the Switch to Gallery link at the top and bottom of many of the forums, (when you are looking at the list of posts, not when one is open) you can go to a gallery of pics that users have posted. Took me a while to figure it out, too.

Usually the grill that covers the fan is on spring clips that will snap the grill up to the ceiling hiding any unevenness in the fan level. Is yours not like that?

This can vary a lot, depending on what the ducting behind your existing fen looks like, and how nearby there is electrical. The fan can be purchased at a big box or Amazon, and then it's just a matter of electrical... I bought a timer switch for mine, so that you could just push a button to have it run for 30/45/60 minutes and shut off. But it's all going to depend on where your electrical and duct runs are.
