burned disk will not play on other computer

I am trying to burn some pictures of paintings on CD-RW disk. I have tried the windows Vista program and also Picasa. The disk burns okay, I "close" the session, it comes up on my computer,then when I try to view it on my husbands computer (Windows XP) nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?

When I put things on a CD and hit eject, it gives me an option of using only on this PC or on other PCs. I check other.

Try using a CD-R rather than a CD-RW and see if that makes a difference.

Coho, I posted on the other thread before I saw this. Several years ago, I purchased a computer that had Norton installed. I could not burn a DVD on that computer until after I removed every trace of Norton. When I called Tech support at Norton, they told me that it was a known problem, and sent me a refund check. That was many years ago however, and I wouldn't think they would still be having that problem.

Sometimes drives are finicky about the formats used to create the files it tries to read, and they get worse as they age. (sort-of like people :-) ) If this is a CD-R (not +R), see if another CD-R disk can be read by his computer. It's not alweays enough to say it can read other discs if we don't know how the others were formatted.

Ok...I just copied what it said I needed from the instructions. The installation from my old Dell was all on one disk. I'd be afraid I'd mess up the installation if it ended up on multiple CDs. Maybe I should say that there would be more chance for error on my part. The instructions also said that the USB key should have a minimum capacity of 8 GB. Well, when I go to Control Panel, I see there are 45 programs now with total space of 1.12 GB. So what gives with them saying I need a minimum of 8GB? I'm guessing that it would all go on one of the disks at the link below. About them...it says, "This recordable DVD features AccuCORE technology which is 100x more scratch resistant than standard discs. These things were killed off by TIVO and cable company subscription models; too many people think that $10/month is a better deal than $200 every five years. I looked at replacing our old Philips some years ago, and couldn't find anything. I'd be curious if you find any current products, short of the usual second-hand market web sites. The other potential solution I saw was a dedicated computer with a video card able to take video-in, and associated software. Again, I haven't looked at this in years, and would be curious for any current solutions.

I don't know why I said CD-RW it was a DVD-R. Maybe I should get a CD-R!! Thanks for the suggestions I will keep trying.

XP does not recognise a DVD unless you use third party software. I use the free DeepBurner, liked below. Thee third option is where you want to download from. There are others of course, maybe even better but this program suits me.

Did you "Finalize" the disk?
I know you have to finalize to play in DVD players but for in another computer, I haven't tried to know.

Hmm, ignore my message above. XP does indeed recognise a DVD but you cannot burn them without a third party program.

Try placing the DVD in hubbies computer, RIGHT click Start, click Explore and look down the left side for your DVD player. Click on that to highlight then try double clicking on any file listed in the right column. The picture should then show in the Windows Picture ans Fax Viewer.

You said you used a DVD-R. Have you checked to see if your husband's computer recognizes DVD-R? It could be DVD+R. Some DVD drives will read both, but some are either one or the other.

Yay!! Finally got it to work. I used a CD-R instead of DVD and Picasa program, and it was done in seconds.
