very ignorant question--

I sometimes ask questions that are so dumb I irritate some members. This is a warning that I have not kept up with technology and need moron instructions.

Several years ago, actually eons if measured in today's techmology, I had a Palm Treo. A computer guru friend had one and I bought what he had. I was a nursing supervisor and used the Treo to store hundreds of employee names and phone numbers. With the Treo in my pocket I could call in extra help from any phone in the hospital. I also stored a few small files regarding certain new procedures so I could help staff with questions. I am now retired and very much out of cutting edge thechical devices. I have a PC and a laptop that works wirelessly. I take it with me on vacations.

My new need is a device that can download files or apps from my computer and I can carry in my pocket or purse. Sort of like my old Treo which died and was thrown out long ago. What I envision needing is a memory card with its own display. I am recently diagnosed with celiac disease and while there is no medication or cure for the disease, a very strict diet that eliminates all gluten from wheat, barley and rye works well to promote good health. Wheat gluten is found is ablut 90% of all processed foods, from bread to soups, to salad dressings, to candy, etc. I want a device that will store thousands of brand name foods, flavorings, mixes, etc. so I can check each item in the grocery store before I decide to buy it. My old Treo would have done this job. Oh, I also had Solitaire on it and played the game whenever I was stuck waiting for something or someone.

I'm told that my old Treo type hand held is no longer made. Some people have fancy phones and store info on them. I do use a cell phone, but only for emergencies, so I have a Go Phone. If I bought a new "bells and whistles" cell phone could I get it to accept my phone number and stay on my Pay As You Go plan from AT+T? I wouldn't be unhappy if the new phone had a camera but I would never use it to check email or go online. I would never be willing to pay to have such a service. So, is there still a Treo type device made that I could use for gluten-free information, or maybe a cell phone with a great capacity to store and display information?

Thanks to anyone who has had the patience to read this, and bless you to anyone who might offer advice.
