You are going to want more than 32" for the toilet. 36" is standard (and perhaps even code in some areas???? Not here in Maine but I heard people saying that on other forums...) We have 34" and it feels fine but I dont think I'd want to go much tighter. You could solve that simply by flipping the closet and shower. So, have your shower -rotated 90 degrees and witha glass end wall- at the end of the tub (which is a nice setup you can see in many bathrooms, the tub deck can actually protrude under the shower glass wall and be a ledge or seat in the shower). Then the passageway moves to the left, and you can steal a bit of space from the other closet for the toilet. Either that of have a shorter vanity. 48" isn't a size I'd fight for. It's too short for a double vanity, really (unless you're using one of the new two-faucet 'trough" styles) so why not go down to 42" and have a better toilet area? For resale, though, you should consider a double vanity. Some people I guess expert truly huge ones, like at least 5+' long. But you CAN get smaller ones, Ikea has some great ones for tight spaces. But if you're not selling anytime soon, do what YOU like!! (But I still think you'll want more toilet space...)

So the toilet is on display any time the door is open?* If cost isn't a big issue, I would move the toilet to the space behind the door where the vanity is now and move the vanity to the wall where the toilet is. Given a choice, I'd take a walk-in shower in a heartbeat over a tub-shower combo. You might even have enough space to not install a door, just a walk-through. do you have a nice budget? First thing I'd do is raise the ceiling over the shower and remove the soffit. hopefully that HVAC vent could be relocated, or moved up w/the ceiling. Take everything out and gut it to the studs. make any repairs, move electrical or plumbing if needed. If you do a wall mount faucet, it will give you a tad more room on that vanity. I recently did my neighbors bathroom. Same size as yours (maybe 1/2' wider. theirs is 5'x8') got them a 36" vanity w/a right offset (the sink is slightly off to the right to allow more countertop space on the left side) Notice the wall mount faucet and how it also gives you extra room. It's also a lot easier to keep clean. if you do a longer niche, you can have all your shower products here. do you want to keep your tower? how much storage do you actually need? you could do a cabinet over the toilet, or these shelves. I've seen this recessed into the wall between the studs for some shallow type of storage. get a vanity with drawers, and do a recessed, larger medicine cabinet for your main mirror to maximize every bit of storage. this mirrored medicine cab opens on both sides. and the cool inset shelf along the entire span also gives you extra storage for smaller jars and bottles. modern type of box shelving above toilet painted the same as the wall. pick a vanity with maximum storage options if you can recess this 'tower' into the wall and borrow a bit of room, this would be great^ if you can borrow space from another room in order to get another foot, you could do a built in cabinet^

I'm in the middle of a bathroom remodel and I can't tell you how many pictures and blogs I've looked at in the last few months, but some key takeaways for me were: - Keep the tile palette fairly neutral and avoid trendy accent tile if you want the remodel to last longer. You can change things up later with paint, fixtures, etc. - If you're using tile for the vanity backsplash, you don't also need the little quartz/marble backsplash. I stayed at an Air BnB where they did this and it looked strange IMO. Wish I had taken a picture. - Consider whether you need a side splash. It can look awkward if it ends in the middle of a wall. You might want it if kids will be using the bathroom though. I can also do a whole thing on mirrors if you're interested. :-)
