1930's small bathroom remodel help

Does any one have any tips, photos or such for a smaller bathroom remodel? i have a 1930's home that i am renovating and the only problem is the size of the bathroom it is 7'6" long and 4'6" wide i need some redesign help to get a tub in there ... to make things a little worse it is right off the kitchen with a 24" door placed 24" from the left wall in the bath leaving for an odd shaped little bathroom...thanx for any and all help

Could you draw a dimensioned floorplan and post it here? That would help a lot.

My bathroom is 3x8 with the door centered in a long side. There is a 3x3 shower at one end and toilet at the other. I cannot imagine getting a tub in there, maybe a smaller slipper tub would fit, or a roman tub

I have a long and narrow guest bath also. What I found made the bathroom look bigger is the 12X24 Daltile floor tiles in an offset pattern. Also, we are trying to use more bath hooks instead of towel rack along the wall to make it seem bigger. I'm not sure if you are going glass door versus curtains for the shower. If you are going with shower curtains, that can be part of your design element. In regards to where to spend for the flash, especially since you plan on moving - knowing what I know now, I think I would have looked to save money on the main shower wall tile for the bathtub surround (which we needed the most of out of all the tiles) and the shower door. I think I could have found the same look for less. What does give the distinctive flair for our bathroom is the accent glass tile in the shower, the glass tile around the mirror, and the fabrique floor tile.

Lovely! I like the classic white tile and porcelain and how you used furniture pieces in the bathroom. I love that the storage at the end of the tub has pull-outs that can be reached from the toilet. Your custom sink and backsplash and counter are unique and beautiful. Yours may be the first bathroom sink I have seen in which a small or medium dog could be washed! That is a good thing! I showed your pictures to my DH because I am thinking of classic tiled walls with a chair rail for when we redo our bath in a couple of years. He liked it! I was expecting him to say, "too old fashioned." He did not, he said it looked nice. From him, nice is a compliment. He even liked your rows of listello. I was just at the Tile Shop's site the other day looking at the Hampton tiles because someone was selling some on Craigslist. I am hoping to do as you did and get what I can cheaper there, and fill in the rest from the store. I can see that you worked very hard to secure all of your materials - and then cut the floor tiles to size and culled the Hampton tiles, too! You succeeded very well in getting the look you wanted while saving money along the way. Congratulations, and thank you for the pictures and great detail and supply list.

It's a rental. Don't waste money on stuff like that. Save it for a better use. Be glad you can paint, which most landlords don't allow. Agree with Patricia that that's all you need to do.

Wall tile to the ceiling is a cleaner and more finished look, though I can understand your builder not wanting to go that high. You can try to get it within a foot of the ceiling, too though going all the way up in a better look. As for the vanity, you may keep the one you have. There are really no standard sizes for vanities, tops can be made in any size. What is most important in a vanity is how useful it is for storing the things you need to keep there and have access to. How useful is yours for those who use the room? Do you need more useful storage like drawers? So be sure about the white-on-white-on-white look, do a search on Houzz for "white small bathrooms" and choose "photos" when it drops down and offers you choices. Look at them until you are sick of them and see how you feel about them. Maybe you will get some ideas for other colors for the vanity, or maybe you will be sure of the white. For the tile, you are looking for the CoF. or co-efficient of friction, for the tile. Read up on it to decide how safe you want your floor to be.

A 4'6" tub is virtually worthless. If you can't bump out, go with a shower only.

Yes, you could cram a full-sized tub, a toilet, and a sink in that space. You'd put the tub along the wall, long ways, the toilet at the end, and a wall-mounted sink over by the head of the tub. So it would be like this:

But I don't recommend it.

There is a corner tub by Kohler that is 48" x 44". If the tub is positioned so that the 48" long side is on your 4'6" wall, you can fit a round front toilet on opposite wall, away from the door, and a 24" wide sink next to the toilet, behind the door. The door has to open in the direction of the sink, otherwise it would bump into the tub.

Is the door on the wall Suero drew it, or on a short wall?
Are your walls regular 2x4 stud walls? is there any electrical, heating or plumbing running in the wall where the door is? Would it screw up kitchen cabinetry to move the door by half a foot or so? Moving a door is not a huge ordeal and might really help your bath layout, depending on where the door is now.
A plan with dimensions would be great! Can you post one?

Can you use a pocket door? That will free up a lot of floor space.
