If you're still under warranty, I would not call a plumber but the appliance store. From scanning around, there may be a blockage but it could also be a control board.

Actually, the first thing I'd do is call the BSH help line.

If you are still under warranty, why not call the dealer?
Hubby may be handy, but if he messes with it, and is unsuccessful, warranty could be voided when tech shows up.
Go for the free repair, and at least you will have a record of the problem, should it come up again.

I'm going to disagree with the above posts and recommend that you have your husband take a look at the parts of the drain system external to the dishwasher. I say this because that stuff is not covered under the DW warranty, and if the tech comes out and nothing is wrong with the DW and the problem is external, you will have to pay for the call. If your husband doesn't feel comfortable with it or doesn't know where to start, then by all means try for a warranty claim, but be open to the possibility you may not be successful. I would definitely not call a plumber unless the problem is confirmed to be external to the DW.

I should also add: I agree with ctycdm that he should not mess with the dishwasher itself being that it's under warranty. The warranty shouldn't be harmed by just investigating under the sink, though.

Yes, agree with you hvtech, I was talking about messing with the DW itself, not the plumbing or external lines, good advice...

OK, we're going to call the appliance store today, and have called Bosch which said "we have a drain issue" (duh - but we have to call again when we get home), but I'm curious what you all think about the timing:

Made first deposit on appliances 9/21 and final payment on 10/29 (yes 1 year minus 2 days ago).

Appliances were delivered (probably doesn't factor in) December 7th.

Will we still be under the 1-year warranty? (We probably have a doubled credit card warranty, so this is out of curiousity).

So I do hope we're covered under the manufacturer's warranty. We screwed up and cancelled the card that doubled the manufacturer's warranty (cancellation was unrelated to this purchase - we just forgot about this and they said it has to be an active card to make a claim). We're going to make the claim on Bosch, since the final payment wasn't made until 10/29.

The warranty should start on the delivery date, not the payment date. What if the appliance had been backordered, for example? Do you have proof of when the appliance was delivered. Some manufacturers will actually let you register the installation date to start the warranty, but some don't. Also, some manufacturers will give you one courtesy warranty call if the warranty recently expired but you have to ask for it. Good luck.

Well, I'll check into it further, but it probably said that when I got the card with the doubled warranty.

I don't know the terms of the card but I don't find it weaselly at all. It's not like they bought an extended warranty - the warranty is a benefit of having the card - if you cancel the card, you lose the benefit.

So the extended warranty was provided by the card? I missed that part. Sorry.

Payment dates are unlikely to have an effect on the coverage period of a manufacturer stated warranty. A car that has a 3yr/36K miles warranty (whichever comes first) bought on a 4-year loan doesn't extend the coverage to 48 months.

Well, they came and they fixed it and didn't hand us a bill, so I guess it was covered even though we made the initial order more than a year ago.

I should have said what it was!

It was a clog in the line between the disposal and the dishwasher (no more detail given on the work order, and we weren't home when the work was being done). The repairman also noted that our air gap, although present (required in CA still) was not connected, although our installed had installed the dishwasher with the required "high loop" so the air gap shouldn't be necessary anyway.

What do you think - 1) would the air gap have made any difference, and 2) if not, should I remove it and put in a soap dispenser?
