Reboot the computer, clear all temp files ect, unplug router an modem plug back in, those are things to try first.

its not my router. the lodge provides the wireless service. it is also super slow. takes about 1 min to open any websites. its an old celron 550mghz laptop. winxp. 128mg ram. fresh install of winxp. no other software loaded. just a machine for internet stuff. my folks use it. i tried it this week and had the same issues. they have a new laptop with vista and cannot get online at all. i have used the old laptop at my house and the internet works fine. speed is so-so at home with comcast high speed internet.

With 128MB of RAM, I'm surprised this machine even boots up! That coupled with the slow celeron processor makes it a snail. Some wireless services, especially at campgrounds, I have found are really slow, so this is not too surprising. Why a particular website will not open??? Don't know.

maybe i was a little off on the memory. it has 64mg onboard and 1 chip of 64mg. i found a 128mg chip this spring from a local used parts place and now it has 196mg total. seems to me that is the limit for this unit. ibm thinkpad. can't recall the model number. i don't recall what os it had when i got it. maybe win2k?

I would check in your browsers list of blocked sites to see if possibly the site has somehow got blocked there. you can try adding the complete url for the site to your approved sites list.

Is your claim to 196 RAM substantiated by an entry or report by the computer, or is it just a mathematical calculation? Not all systems, particularly older ones, will allow you to mix different capacity or configured RAM sticks. Plus, some systems are fussy as to whether the larger should be in slot one or two.

Since it appears you are not too familiar with what's inside the system it might be advisable to install and run the free application Belarc. You will receive a complete report of the system which will assist you in your endeavors, and surely shorten the time for members here to assist you.
