Shower or tub in one-bathroom house?
Comments (21)It seems to me you could get away with a shower BUT it's going to have to be heads and shoulders above the rest for you to capture the audience your home would appeal to. A prepackaged walk in shower isn't going to work. Many retired adults have special needs. Getting in and out of a tub can be hard for them. So your shower needs to be big enough for large people to move in comfortable. Wheelchair accessable would be prefect. It should have a seat for aging bones to rest on or shower from and good sturdy handrails to help pull them up. Keep the height you must step up or down to get into the shower as low as possible a ramp type entrance/exit would be the best. Small details like these can make a difference to someone whose looking for a retirement home...especially if they have one of their parents living with them....See MorePossible to fit shower & tub into smallish bathroom?
Comments (9)Thank you roarah and benjesbride. Roarah, agree the opening is inspiration picture is narrrow, we would want a 24" opening, which I think is possible: 36" width for tub, 24" opening" , 38" for glass wall which should be sufficient to keep most water out. Could have a curb too. Is 36" width for a tub unrealistic I wonder? benjesbride, I can move the door but it would disrupt the layout of the hall, so I prefer to avoid it if possible. But something to consider for sure. This bathroom would be primarily used by a now 9 year old boy and only occasionally by guests. We have ample linen storage elsewhere. I'm thinking I might be able to get away with something like this for the vanity, although I would at least 36" to comfortable stand in front of vanity. :...See MoreKids bathroom - replace tub with walk-in shower?
Comments (7)I'm getting rid of both tubs in my Coachella Valley house and replacing them with walk-in showers, but my neighborhood has a lot of retired people in it, and I am not interested in selling the house any time soon. My real estate agent said that no one in Palm Springs takes baths. Also, we plan to rent it for about half of the year, and I was told that guests do not like to take baths. Of course it is different if you live in the house full time. Right now, it is very difficult to step into the master bath/shower because the tub is oval, and there is a lot of edge to clear to get inside....See Moreneed help fixing up my kids bathroom with a green bathtub
Comments (4)600?? are you serious? I'm in a big city and 350-400 was the going rate. supply and demand I guess. So, then if you get that cute shower curtain, just keep it pulled close. you won't even see the tub. and if you need the extra storage, you can paint it white. (sand the finish or deglaze it first, then paint it white w/a good trim paint. (not wall paint) or chalk paint it, fine sand it, and poly it. you could also do some open shelving w/spare pieces of wood and brackets if you like a farmhouse look use some wood to frame out the mirror, get a new light (cheap) I'm sure in the south you can find an old farmhouse hutch piece! paint it, or build one, stick an old window over it hang up their towels on some colored hooks...See MoreILoveRed
