video, no audio

Maybe someone can help. I have a computer with an HP printer, and high speed Verizon Fios . But I've lost all the sound. I know there's power to the speakers because thE light is on. What am I doing wrong? I used to be able to listen to songs and see You-Tube videos with sound, no longer.

Is there a mute button on your keyboard that you accidently pushed?

Since we do not know what O/S you are using I can generically send you to the Control Panel and under Sounds and Audio Devices to check for inappropriate settings or check marks.

Pay attention to all volume slider bars you have available to you on the entire system. Some monitors have sound adjusting buttons on them too.

Two other seemingly silly things you might try so you eliminate them. Check that someone never turned the volume down on the speakers itself and check that the speaker plug is still seated fully in the back of the computer.

Did you try putting a music CD in the drawer? Did the CD spin and the activity light on the CD player come on?

Yes I have Roku 2, and it now has access to Youtube - still it must suffer from the same HD shortfall as Netflix, which I also have via Roku. Then too I have only 8 mb DSL (more like 6 mb). But, using my computer with a wireless keyboard and mouse, I an scroll around the screen to click and type in search strings much easier using the computer to drive Youtube or any other computer accessed information and streaming data. I don't have a big HDTV, only 30" and only the lower (don't remember the number maybe 1080) lines .

See if your sound has been stopped in Services Under
Windows Audio.
Start - Control Panel - Open Administrative Tools - Open Component Services - Click Services (Local) and Scrowl down the list to Windows Audio to see if it says - Started. If stopped
Left click Windows Audio and click restart. -
Or
Right click Windows Audio - left click Properties - Left click Start
If the above doesn't work, go to control panel and open System Icon -
Hardware Tab - Device Manager - Click the + Plus sign for Sounds.......... -
Right click Realtek AC 97 (Or whatever Sound you have) - Left click - Update Driver.
To update you will need the CD that came with your computer

Or get your sound driver off the Internet.

It could be the on board sound portion of the motherboard may be caput if you use that as your sound. If sound is coming from a sound card, then just replace the sound card.
