Finally finished a mostly DIY ground floor half-bath to full bath conversion. Gutted the existing space and bumped it out 3 feet to add a shower stall, and replaced vanity and toilet. Did not post much here, but researched here quite a bit (and appreciate it very much), so, if of interest to anyone:

Stuff--

1. Porcelain floor tile 12x24 from build direct--great price on Ergon brand rectified porcelain

2. Wall tile is Roca (Spanish) rectified porcelain 12x24 -- Home Depot special order was the best price we could find.

3. Shower faucet is Grohe aquatower 2000--body sprays are nice

4. Vanity is a cheap(ish) Chinese knockoff--it does the job.

5. Maax french doors--time consuming to assemble, but quality is good

6. Motiv Sine accessories

7. Toilet is a Toto Nexus--quite pleased

8. Grohe Concetto lav faucet

9. Kohler Purtist cast iron shower base--really nice

"While we were at it" (famous last words, right?) we decided to redo the laundry room, which is on the other side of the wet wall from the bathroom, so that got done, too. Ikea Cabinets, Armstrong vinyl flooring (nice), and Bosch washer/dryer (the washer has had some problems, now thankfully--hopefully!--resolved. Stacking the washer and dryer allowed us to add a laundry sink, but makes working on the washer much more difficult. Time will tell if it was worth doing.

Looks amazing! I love the green color in the bathroom and the red in the laundry room. Nice, clean, modern colorful spaces. Good job!

Hi, Letter! No problem with the questions - my pleasure. The brand and model # of the fridge is in my very first post. And yes, we have a "wall" on the right side of our fridge, too. See what's green in the above photo? That's the wall. (It "jigs" then, beside and behind the fridge) What's creamy white is all cabinet and trim. I think you can better see what I am trying to explain if you look at the two pictures of the plans, posted very early in this thread. That should make it clearer to you. Let me know. We couldn't recess the fridge, either, our steps to our upstairs are on the other side of that back wall. But I think the counter-depth fridge works nicely to really look "built-in". I really love the fridge, BTW. It is beautiful, works GREAT, holds a TON, and is so user-friendly! The granite overhangs the peninsula 11.5" and I think it's perfect. Even my 6+ foot tall hubby doesn't have any trouble. And the peninsula seating and the table nearby is also quite nice. I find that we tend to use the bar mostly for informal breakfasts and snacks, and the table for dinner. And while we don't have small children anymore (or grandbabies yet!) I can envision (for larger meals) the kids sitting at the bar while the grown-ups sit close-by at the table.

Mtnrdredux I'm not much of a decorator and I have been lurking on your posts cuz I cant get enough of your house and this project! Anyway just please reconsider the no potty in your actual bathroom. Put it where you want the window seat. I know it will be a pain to do, tearing up for plumbing and the vent and all, plus on an outside wall for coldness issues with the water lines (you are in Maine) in a 100 yo house) Weirdly you could turn it into a window seat if you hated it but at least the plumbing would be there and done when everything it torn up anyway. If you rent out this place it just might keep someone from peeing in the sink...sorry. In the same note keep the sink in the other bathroom with the shower. I don't care how small or if it folds or hangs from the ceiling. Put in all the plumbing you possibly can now when its all torn to pieces anyway. In a guest house honestly, you cant have too much plumbing. OK carry on.

Sorry Teppy that I didn't respond sooner...I did not have internet connection for a couple of days. Something to do with IP address... Here is the link to the venetian blend with the red sea stone. They aren't a true red color but I blend of different shades of red. This blend has the flax stone, the red sea stone and I had added to this blend the hem color tantrum tile and the antique bronze. I told them to delete the adobe color glass tile (change it with the hem) and the grand mamier tile (change it with the bronze). Will see...hope I like it! It is funny what you did to the exeter tiles!!! This is something that I would have done myself as well...I'm glad that at the end you achieved the look you were looking for. Thanks for the tip about dry brushing some paint on the tiles...I'll keep that in mind if I get surprised once my tile arrives..Also, if you don't mind sharing what you got as the liner for your wood hood...do you like it? Thanks! I love them too. And so far the maintenance has been a breeze. I haven't started major cooking yet but I think I'll get a huge cutting board to put right by the stove to throw hot pots and to cut on and things. I have spilled stuff already all over it (clearly I am not a marble person, although it's beautiful) and it doesn't show anything.

Very spiffy. I love the built-in shelves and the whole feel is really unique and interesting. For sure not everyone's taste, but that's what being unique is all about. I love that floor tile too! Looks great!

Fabulous! I'm envious of your Toto, the Nexus is so much more sleek than our Ultramax....but the whole redo is a wonderful accomplishment. Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanks, all. We are pleased with how it turned out. As for build direct, it was great--ordered online, freight shipping, good communication and minimal breakage on the tiles. The Ergon series we bought was $12/sf locally, and came out to about $6/s.f. fully loaded from build direct. The one caveat is that you have to by minimum quantities--we had actually bought this tile 2 years ago when we redid our kitchen, and ordered enough for this bathroom.

Looks great! We hope to bump out the wall and add a shower to our half bath someday, so it's good to see how well this turned out for someone sle. Love the floor tiles, too.

Fantastic job! The "cheap Chinese vanity" looks very stylish! If you go easy on it, it may last quite nicely.

Stacking the w/d to get a sink will be well worth it, imho.

beckyg75--thank you, and, yes, I suspect the vanity will last fine. It's plywood and, while not perfectly square, seems solid enough. The drawer glides are not great, but, again, they do the job.

It was designed for a floating installation, but with the likelihood of both kids and seniors resting their weight on it, we decided that adding a couple of legs was prudent.

Not sure about the washer/dryer--the washer has been so full of problems, and every service call is a big deal due to the fact that they are stacked and that the dryer is gas. If the issue is now, as it seems, resolved, then, yes, it is great to have a sink next to the laundry.
