The road is finally going in. The foundation at the back of the property is our house! A few more homes need to be taken down but eventually the cul-de-sac will have 10 houses.

We are hoping that framing on our place will start in the next 2 weeks.

Here are the floor plans. Hopefully the excavator can start digging tomorrow! We were not in favor of an "open" floor plan, but wanted a very large kitchen.

Haven't posted on here in a couple of months, but things are progressing nicely on our build. Moved into a rental last month because of school starting & the build not being completed. Hoping to be in by Nov. 1st. Just posted a couple of pics, exterior is done, trim will be painted in a week, just waiting on glass panels for deck. Cabinets are installed, flooring completed except for carpeting. Trim is finished upstairs, moving onto main floor. Need to updated pics, will have a lot more next month.

Hi. I haven't posted much but have been lurking for all of 2009. We started building our home 3 years ago and I wish I had found this site sooner. We are doing it ourselves; but I guess the 3 years gave that away:).

This site has been a great resource. We are trying to complete the exterior now and it is very exciting to see the progress slowly becoming a "home". I am going to try to post a picture. I hope it works...

We are still moving right along! We started the first week of April. We had a builder help us get it under roof and DH has been subcontracting the rest himself. The exterior is mostly complete exceot for shutters and doors. Concrete going in this week. We have a few coats of paint and trim and doors going up now. Hickory floors delivered tomorrow. The stonework is complete including my flagstone porches. Copper roof installed last week. Very exciting stuff!

Here is a little progress from the last post. Brick work is getting done (since DH and father n law are brick masons). Last week we had the last 15 sheets of tin to fall to the ground and get ruined, so now we have to wait on more tin to get here before we can finish the roof. I'll be glad when the roof is done, the first week of putting on the tin, dh fell off the roof, luckily he was ok.

glockfan- Thank you so much! I love it as well. Our inspiration picture came from a site called Dreamhomesource on the internet. We took that outside rendering to a draftsman and had the plan made to fit our family and our needs. It is turning out to be just what I had envisioned.

We are making progress again. The siding is almost finished. The electrical and plumbing rough-ins are done. The HVAC duct work has been finished, and the air handler has been set in place. The deck and screened porch are partially complete.

The insulators start next week, and I am desperately trying to get all the low voltage wires pulled before they start.

glockfan- we reduced the sq footage as well. I don't remember what the original sq footage was but ours in a little under 4000 I believe. We also finished off the basement which is not included in that. It is plenty big, actually wondering how I'm going to keep it clean-ugh!

I haven't posted here on the monthly update because we have been so busy MOVING IN!! As my sister so aptly describes the feeling, we keep waiting for the real owners to show up and ask us to leave.
Just to recap, we broke ground Oct. 29, 2007 and moved in June 13, 2009...about 20 months for the entire project, but worth the wait in our estimation. So, here's our pics:

Interior details made use of reclaimed barn wood and black walnut harvested from the property. Paint is BM Powell Buff and Silver Sage. Kitchen counters and bath vanities are Alberene Old Dominion soapstone, unoiled at present. Recessed lights are Cree LR6 LED's...love 'em!

After a long 14 months, we are in (and have been for 2 months). I wanted to post some pics, haven't done so in a long time and not sure I even remember how. Iamsum--were there things in particular that you wanted info on? I did a lot of research online and then bought most things locally. Will be glad to share. My best advice--get a really good builder--we had a builder but still ended up doing a lot of work ourselves (sourcing materials and hiring subs, etc)

Suzienj-- Island granite is verde peacock. I will try to upload a closer up pic. It is dark green with some gold veining. The rest of the granite in the kitchen is juperana ipanema.

Angnrog-- The light fixture over the island in the kitchen is Savoy House Cavalier 3 Light Trestle. The fixture over the dining room table is Progress Lighting P4418-77. I bought them at a local lighting store, but they can be purchased online. Most of our fans are Quorum--great fans, great price and a lifetime warranty.

angel 411, i loved the coffered ceilings in your living room. I wanted to have that look in our great room but i was unsure about it's cost. Would you mind sharing the cost for that feature?

iamsum: thanks for the compliment! That coffered ceiling is my DH's pride and joy. It was included in our framer's job scope, so we didn't pay anything additional, but if you are budgeting a new build, add about $1500-$2000 for framing and trim (depending on how complex you get with the trim materials) He is starting the trim this weekend, so hopefully I'll have some new pics of it soon.

Looking good. I get dizzy just looking at that scaffolding. That's way the heck up there. LOL Can you tell I'm terrified of heights?

Then you wouldn't like this one, this is my Framer/Father in Law, 20' drop inside the wall, 30' outside. He was measuring the outside box for the roof trusses, I tried to make him use a ladder, not happening wastes too much time he said.

OK, I feel queezy now. Pardon me for asking, but IS HE NUTS? LOL

Last week I was flipping through channels on the TV and came across Inside Edition, the entertainment/news show. They were doing a story on construction workers who work on high rise buildings, having cocktails for lunch. One guy had 5 beers and went back to work 100' feet up in the iar. How insane is that? Than I thought about it and wondered if that's where he gets his courage and maybe couldn't do his job without the liquor. Either way, I think he's playing rushing roulet with his life.

I can't get to the top of a 5' ladder for goodness sake.

We are just starting but I think things will move pretty quickly from here. We poured the slab today and should start framing Monday. The basic framing should be finished in about a month and we hope to have everything closed in by December. This is my first post in this forum and I have enjoyed viewing other builds. Many beautiful houses here.

I've never had a house built and I kind of went out on a limb here. I'm fairly old for this type of undertaking (I turn 60 tomorrow) and am already feeling the stress. I probably would have been smart to stay where I am but I have always been a risk taker, I just hope I haven't gotten in over my head. I need to quit watching the news.

Happy Birthday! I'm finding the 60's are my best time. I'm more fit than I ever was, and really enjoying life. Most days, I have tons of energy, and can't wait to get started on our house.
